Why is hand-drawn animation and stop-motion animation dead?

I think it's just a phase. All this new technology is coming out to make a "better" movie, and people are buying into it. The smurfs and alvin & the chicmunks are shallow, plotless movies that could never measure up to The Lion King or Beauty & The Beast. It's sad, because those are the movies with morals and meaning, and hopefully people will eventually see that and come back to the classic animation. You're completely right that the STORY is the most important part of the film. Like I absolutely love the hunchback of notre dame, its an incredible story, and it'd be an incredible story no matter what type of animation it was done in. I think Disney should definitely return to it's routes, and possibly recruit some A-listers to voice the parts... which would definitely increase the popularity. If they could just produce a couple incredible movies close together (which, I know, is not easy) I believe faith would be restored in 2D animation.

People nowadays are not smart or understanding enough to comprehend deep, emotional storyline and hence they require 3D motion and special effects to satisfy their small capacity. I actually think that snow white and the seven dwarfs had one of the best animations of the disney movies.

I'm not sure why? And yeah I was disappointed that Princess and the Frog didn't get the attetion it desreved because it's great movie and the return to 2D animation! I was so happy that it came back but was disponited that the first 2D movie didn't get attetion it needed.
