well in the spike and buffy relationship they like to concentrate on seeing red and not what spike was like before that and how buffy was treating everyone she cared for she treated spike the worst and played mind games with him, and after seeing red he didn't want to sorry because he knew he didn't deserve anything but he took responsiblity for his actions and when buffy was with spike she became a better leader and he became a champion they made each other stronger.
