Buffy the Vampire Slayer Twilight fans, do you wish Bella was more strong & self reliant like Buffy women? (emotionly/mentally not physically)

This isn't me hating on twilight, one of my good friends loves twilight and even she says she wishes the writer (is it stephanie mayer?) was more femenist like Joss. The example she used was one of the twilight trailers has Edward saying in a big white knight voice "I'll protect you" and if that were a Buffy trailer the next line would've been Buffy saying "I can protect myself". So I figured if even a big fan like her could be annoyed by the lead womans lack of female empowerment other Buffy/twilight fans might be too.

I think she is incredibly strong!
Just imagine what she goes through in New Moon for example!
And it must be hard being this fragile human with all these strong mythical creatures around you all the time...

I dont see what's spoilery about it. It's a matter of opinion not a fact about the movie/book. the fact that some people are picking no she's strong enough and others are picking yes, she needs more stregnth means you will still need to see the movie to know which is true for the character.

the only quote I use is from the trailer. So if you see a single commercial for the movie you'll hear it anyway, it doesn't give away any of the movie

I don't really care...it's a crappy book, making it more like Buffy wouldn't really help.

Lol, sorry if I offend any Twilight fans...I just don't like it. It's the whole storyline I have a problem with, not Bella.

I think that what annoys me the most is that she complains about Edward being overprotective, but she actually behaves like someone that cannot do anything without someone watching over her...so yes, sometimes she could be a little more like the buffy women!!

Oh, and BTW I also dont think there any kind of spoiler in this pick!!

I agree with Mermaid-tail (cute name by the way) that pretty much every time she is strong its for a man, which is not empowerment.

I also think mari_giovani is right that even though she doesn't like being over-protected she seems to need it.

i said that because i dont know anything about what the characters are like and now after reading the question im guessin the main girl is opposite to buffy which is not a massive spoiler but still a spoiler!

but x-missmckena-x since lots of people have picked 'no' and said she is strong, you don't know she's the opposite of Buffy. It doesn't spoil anything because like bellona said, its a matter of opinion so you might see the movie and think she's really strong, or you might think she's not. no-one has used any examples and opinion about if she's strong is split, so you dont know any more than you did before this pick was made.

I wanna start by saying I prefer Buffy as a woman example, a woman that can be strong and independent without losing her feminine side. With that being said, none of us are the same. Bella is a different girl from Buffy..she lacks confidence, she thinks less of herself without recognizing her true strength (that each of us can find in ourselves). With that being said, I just think people are too over-protective of Bella but mainly because she's so clumsy and doesn't have that much physical power like Buffy has. The only thing is that Edward almost doesn't listen to her when she states her reasons and wants to make her own decisions but not out of spite, just for her safety (which, if you read the books you'll understand).

Of course I prefer women who defend themselves and I'm ALL for them but not all women are like this so maybe we need an example of both sides and sometimes things are not even that black & white.

Buffy can be strong emotionally and physically but there are times when she breaks down and she's weak like everybody else is and so does Bella at times. Buffy needs to protected too so for me, If I had to bring an example of a strong woman I'd bring Buffy definitely but there are many views on this.
