Angelina Jolie And The Children Were Interviewed By The FBI 

Angelina Jolie and her kids were interviewed by FBI agents concerning the allegations that Brad Pitt was “verbally abusive” and got “physical” with his 15-year-old son Maddox on the couple’s private plane.

Two FBI agents spent three hours with Jolie and her kids at their Malibu home to gather facts about the alleged incident, according to TMZ. As PEOPLE previously reported, sources close to Pitt say it is unlikely that the FBI will proceed with an official investigation.

The L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services has launched an investigation into the alleged incident after it was reported anonymously. It is ongoing. The case was referred to the FBI under special aircraft jurisdiction, as the alleged incident occurred mid-flight.

According to TMZ, the FBI spent much of the recent interview attempting to pinpoint the location of the airplane at the time of the alleged incident, because there could be jurisdiction issues if the incident occurred outside U.S. airspace. The website also notes that the FBI was interested in what happened when Jolie and Pitt’s private plane refueled in Minnesota, as it is possible Minnesota officials could have jurisdiction.

One month after she filed for divorce, Jolie and Pitt are still locked in divorce negotiations — with disagreements over child custody their primary issue.

“Things are still strange and strained between them,” a source close to the family tells PEOPLE. “They are still working on issues that they can’t agree on. It seems their issues still involve the kids.” Since the alleged incident, the former couple has abided by a voluntary agreement involving counseling and visitation as recommended by the DFCS, which expires on Oct. 20.

While a source confirms to PEOPLE that “negotiations are steady and ongoing,” no real progress will be made until both parties receive feedback from the DFCS investigation.
