I really enjoyed the 'Seven Ancient Wonders' series by Matthew Reilly, and the 'Scarecrow' series, also by Matthew Reilly.

Considering you seem to be more of a 'romance' person than a 'Hey-let's-go-see-who-can-make-the-biggest-explosion' kinda person, I'd suggest 'Paranormalcy' by Kiersten White. It's great. The sequel is 'coming soon', though, so that means that there is a bit of a wait...

Onto teen survival and radiation leaks, I'd take a poke at 'Gone' by Michael Grant. The sequels, 'Hunger',' and 'Lies,' are also very good. 'Plague,' is coming in August. :)

-Paranormalacy
-13 to life
-Shiver
-The wizard of Earsee
-Angel Blood
-Fire light
-The witch and the wizard

These are all the first books in series like the house of night.. in the sense that they are paranormalacy not Vampire....
