Chapter 2:


"Serenity, wait." Sadie said. Serenity slowed down, but kept on running. Finally, the wisp traveled over to a dry stone fountain.

"Why would they lead us here?" Savannah asked. Serenity shrugged, suddenly, the scene changed. Instead of the dull, gray stone there was a pristine, crystal fountain. Clear water was pouring out of it. A young women was sitting on the edge of it. She had long blonde tied into a loose ponytail, her turquoise eyes gleamed with happiness, and pride. She looked fondly down at the little girl in her her arms. A young man with black hair, and blue eyes sat next to her, undoubtedly they were the parents of the little girl. They looked oddly familiar to Serenity. Suddenly, the scene vanished, and Serenity breathed in deeply. It was like she wasn't able to breathe for those couple minutes that the scene had changed.

"Serenity are you alright?" Sadie asked. Serenity looked at her for a moment, and then looked down as if she was in deep thought.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Serenity said. Suddenly, they heard a noise followed by a howl in the trees. They looked around.

"Maybe we should go." Scarlet said.

"Yeah." Serenity whispered, they started to leave. Suddenly a giant black wolf jumped out. It landed on Serenity, and Serenity fell down. The wolf had golden eyes that seemed scary yet friendly at the same time. Serenity didn't move or struggle, she somehow knew the wolf wouldn't hurt her. The wolf looked at her. By now it's claws were digging into her shoulders.

"Night Star, get off her. She's not a demon." A deep, kind voice spoke. A young man appeared. He had brown hair, and light blue eyes. He had a kind smile on his face. He wore typical clothes that someone would wear when they were in the woods or jungle. A sharp sword hanging from his belt. The wolf got of Serenity, and walked over to his master.

"Sorry, about her. She sometimes leaps before she thinks." He told Serenity, and held out his hands to help her up, Serenity put her frigid hands into his warm ones, and a strange feeling filled her heart.

"Thanks." She said.

"No problem." He said, "Who are you?"

"I'm Serenity, these are my adopted sisters, Sadie, Scarlet, and Savannah." Serenity said, "And you are?"

"William." He answered, "Um... I don't think you should be out here."

"Why not?" Serenity asked.

"Well one, you're obviously new around here, and two you're the surviving rightful princess of this kingdom who is being hunted down by the Evil Queen, who will destroy you, and if she destroys you the kingdom is doomed into eternal darkness and they have no hope to help them through it." William said.

"You... how did you know that?" Serenity asked.

"You look exactly like the queen, and your name is Serenity so I figured. Anyway I want to come with you, and make sure she doesn't kill you five minutes into the journey." William explained.

"Why?" Serenity asked.

"Do you want my help or not?" William asked.

"You seem to know a lot more about this place than me so... yes, I want you to help us." Serenity said.

"Okay, but you're all going to do whatever I tell you if we're in trouble." William said.

"Don't push it." Serenity said.

"I'm not, you earthlings are really weird." William said.

"You're walking around with a giant black wolf that pounces randomly on people." Serenity said, "and you're calling me the weird one."

"Yeah pretty much, at least I don't follow glowing lights that might lead me to my possible doom." William said. Serenity glared at him, but she was actually very surprised, William was the only person she'd ever met that was almost as clever as she was. Now, that sounded narcissistic.

Sadie sighed, "Three seconds in, and they're already fighting."

"This is going to be a long day." Savannah said.

"Stop being such pessimists." Scarlet jumped in.

"We're just stating the facts." Sadie said.

Scarlet fake-coughed, "Pessimists."

Serenity walked up to them, "William says he can help us. He's an accomplished demon slayer, and knows this realm better than anyone. He also told me that there is no time to ."

"And you believe him?" Savannah asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I don't have much of a choice." Serenity said, "We need all the help we can get. We need to tell my grandmother before she starts looking for us." Suddenly, a great explosion echoed through the land. The four girls exchanged worried looks, and ran to the house.

When they got to the mansion, it was burned down. Nothing was left.

"What happened?" Serenity asked.

"You've just witnessed the power of the evil Queen, and it's her least dangerous actually." William said.

"You mean she blew it up?" Serenity asked ignoring the fact that this was Lactea's least dangerous spell.

"Yeah." William said.

"But how did she find us?" Serenity asked.

"Your scent must be stronger than anyone ever thought." William said.

"My scent?" Serenity asked.

"Magic gives off a powerful scent that only demons and witches can smell, and your magic is ten times as powerful than regular sorceresses." William said.

"Oh, wait demons?" Serenity asked.

"Servants of the Evil Queen." William explained.

"What do they do?" Serenity asked. William looked down.

He sighed, "You don't want to know."

"Yeah, I probably don't." Serenity said. When they heard quiet voices behind the bushes, they quickly hid behind the trees. The owners of the voices came out of the forest. At first they looked like ordinary humans, but soon Serenity noticed their pointy teeth, and black eyes. Serenity looked at William worriedly. He looked at her reassuringly. One of the demons looked straight at them. Serenity hid behind the trees again. The demons left. The four girls came out from behind the trees, but William stopped them.

"Wait," He whispered, "They're not gone." He looked at Night Star and nodded. The wolf got up on his feet, and ran swiftly and quietly over the lawn. He then ran back to William.

"What is it, Night star?" William asked. The wolf said something about the demons being very dangerous. William looked worried.

"They're manipulative demons." He said, "They can make you do stuff you normally wouldn't if they're close enough."

"You mean like ghosts?" Scarlet asked.

"Yes." William said.

"And they can do that to anyone?" Serenity asked.

"Yes except for a couple people, but it's because of these kinds of things that make it very important to trust no one. You can't be naive in this world. The people you trust most might lead you to your doom." William said.

"How do we know that we can trust you then?" Serenity asked.

"If I was evil, I wouldn't be telling you this now, would I?" William said, "Good question though. Now come on we have to get going."

"Where are we going?" Serenity asked.

"No idea." William answered, "But I know someone who might."
