Avatar: The Legend of Korra Why???

I absolutely love the original series of Avatar and a huge fan! It kinda bugs me though how the two creators of the series approached Korra. I think that after Aang defeated the Firelord, things just went completely crazy because society became so industrialized over that period of time. I really wish the writers never went in that direction because Korra just does not have the Avatar charm. I honestly think it would have been cool to either start where they left off, or would have done a whole season with mini-series with past avatars like Roku, Kurin the avatar before Kyoshi. Benders in Korra are not as strong as they were in the original series. Uncle Iroh would have walked in and destroyed Ammon. I just don't understand why they went the direction they did with Korra and why?
