If Makos' scarf belonged to his father, then why is it red?

His father being an Earthbender.

Could his father gotten him from his wife (Mako's mother), maybe?

I am thinking his father was a fire bender.
I am thinking his Dad was a fire bender and his Mom was an earth bender.
That would be the reason why Mako was a fire bender and Bolin was a earth bender. But maybe Mako's Mom was a fire bender and his Dad was a earth bender. I don't know for sure. But I think it's ether one of those :D

well in the the comic books which is created by the makers of avatar and in the beginning of the show it says that the republic of nations were created by the fire nation colonies . In the colinies both fire and earth benders seem to harmoniously coexist with eachother in the the comic book series the promise part 123 there was this earthbender girl who considered herself as a fire nation citizen so she wore both green and red
