A few weeks ago at my workplace I was approached by a very visible, though homeless, religious man. He asked me if I were religious in which I replied with a nonchalant "No."
From there it seemed as if all hell was breaking loose. He started badgering me and saying that because I was baptized as a small child I'm ultimately "damned to Hell" for my "families mistakes".
Perhaps I should have just upped and walked away.. but for one, I was never in this particular situation, and since he was a paying customer, I sort of felt compelled to put up with his bullshit because I didn't want him to cause a scene or lose my job. I had no idea what to do. Needless to say, I was VERY uncomfortable in my workplace.
At one point the man whipped out his trusty Bible and read to me the passage stating something about the fact that I was baptized before the "age in which I would actually understand the concept of Jesus and God," my family undoubtedly voided the "name of God" and I'm "damned". I therefore told the man that at the simple age of 3 I vaguely understood the concept that "Jesus was good and died for me" and that "God is awesome". Even though my views have now changed, at that age, I believed what mommy told me and dressed nice for Church on Sundays. Then the ignorant man insulted my intelligence by saying that there is NO WAY POSSIBLE that a small child could EVER understand such a thing, even after explaining to the man that I was brought up in an educated household with an Atheist father of my own. He said that I shouldn't have pride in such things as intelligence. Which, in turn, pissed me the fuck off. After explaining to the man that I understood the "Seven Deadly Sins" and that "those are things that "should" be followed" he stated that they are not even listed in the Bible. No shit, Sherlock. I'm just that awesome to know that.
Thankfully a co-worker sensed that I was uncomfortable in this situation he asked me for assistance (even though I was on break at the time) then I just went to have a smoke and explain to my boss the Hell I was just put through.
Not only did this man make me feel uncomfortable by pushing his Bible on me while I was trying to enjoy my break.. when I went to use the restroom later that day, he was sitting by the bathroom, and as I came out actually read me a passage while I was walking away explaining something about women. I wasn't paying attention.. I didn't want to listen to his bullshit any longer.
The whole point of this pointless rant is just to try and tell my story of how these ignorant Bible Pushers piss me off. Why can't Christians just go and get their own damn religion and stay the fuck out of the way that I think and feel (if that makes any type of sense).
Needless to say, from now on if I encounter this man at my job, I will just walk away. He if tries to cause a scene.. I won't interact.. go get my boss, and have her deal with him.
People need to learn to just stop badgering Atheists.. they won't win no matter what they do.
We're too smart for that.
