It's hard to explain to your mum the concept of asexuality when sex itself is such a taboo.
@zanhar1
I get that a lot too. " You don't want kids? Hah! You'll end up lonely one day!"
I naturally hide my suspected asexuality though; I'm heteroromantic anyway so I can often come across as straight, and I'm not exactly the most outgoing person either. Maybe I'll actually pluck up the courage to talk to someone in real life about it one day!
YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT I FEEL.
My mum was a whole other story! I hate making a big deal of things, so whenever I try to tell my parents something I'm afraid they'd overreact to, I wait for the appropriate moment to bring it up in conversation, and then briefly say it in a casual manner. That way, I don't feel the pressure to go into more detail than needed and the previous conversation can continue.
Thing is, I do it so casually that, on numerous occasions, they think I'm kidding. Years ago, I confessed something to my parents (again, something I was afraid they'd be shocked or worried about), and instead they accused me of being sarcastic. So I guess I got away with that. XD
This was similar. In a conversation with my mum, I mentioned how I'd likely be fine settling down in a romantic relationship, as long as it was purely romantic and not sexual. She laughed and made a comment about how picky I am when it comes to men.
So I guess I technically came out. I just didn't put in extra effort to make sure I was taken seriously. After all, what people want to believe is their choice! :)
Being asexual is a sexual orientation, meaning it's something natural you're born with and discover it some time in your life.
Idk if you could change sexual orientations (or if someone has) once you've already grown but I doubt it tbh
