I just remembered this while looking for something else: There's most likely going to be more girls since anime is actually aimed more towards females than males. Hence the overabundance of Yaoi/Hetero and harsh lack of Yuri. Shows that may seem like they're aimed at males (kind of like K-ON) are actually aimed at females as a main audience x3
1. The most popular animes/mangas are Shōnen, aka mangas/animes aimed at younger boys
2. I have seen MUCH more ecchi (aimed at guys) readily available then I have seen Yaoi
3. The actual Yuri genre (ignoring yuri elements used in ecchi) was originally aimed at girls, thus the reason for its general unpopularity in the US

@☆xxtaysuicunexx: what the... K-On! just wasn't aimed at girls, seinen manga from which the anime was based on says otherwise. (Seinen is for adult males) I know girls like it, but do you even try to make sure what your saying is actually true?...... What....
