Judging by my username it's easy to assume that my favorite film is The Wind Rises which is correct. In my opinion The Wind Rises is the greatest film of all time. I noticed that it's not as popular as some Studio Ghibli films including Spirited Away. This review is a explanation of why I think every fan of film should see The Wind Rises.
The Plot: The Wind Rises has 2 major story lines. 1 storyline is about protagonist Jiro Horikoshi who was a real guy. Jiro is a person who loves airplanes and becomes a airplane designer. He and his best friend Honjo are working on planes during a time where airplanes were used for war. The other storyline is about Jiro's romance with a painter called Naoko Satomi. The wind literally helps get Jiro and Naoko together, but Naoko has a secret that could ruin her life. Both story lines are good, but Naoko's storyline is my favorite. Explaining why would give away spoilers to how amazing Naoko's storyline is.
The Characters: The film is full of quality characters not counting the harsh Mr. Kurokawa. Jiro is a likeable and engaging protagonist. Naoko is the film's biggest scene stealer, because of her lovely personality and incredible storyline. Jiro and Naoko are my favorite couple from any film. Their love for each other is heartwarming. Jiro and Honjo are a interesting duo who have opposite personalities, but get along well. The movie has other good characters including Giovanni Caproni, Mr. Hattori, Naoko's dad, Mr. Castorp, and Mrs. Kurokawa.
The Acting: The American version of The Wind Rises has a cast of very talented people. Oddly enough 1 of my favorite actors, Martin Short (Mr. Kurokawa), is the only person in the film who has a unappealing voice acting performance. The other people in the film were good including Joseph Gordon Levitt (Jiro) and Jon Krasinski (Honjo). Emily Blunt (Naoko) is the biggest standout. Her voice acting was amazing which makes sense, because Emily is my favorite actress. Stanley Tucci was very impressive as Giovanni. 1 of my favorite actors, William H. Macy (Naoko's dad), was great.
The Animation and Music: Of course The Wind Rises has good animation, because Studio Ghibli is fantastic at animation. The music is relaxing.
Overall I give The Wind Rises a 10 out of 10. It's a must watch for everybody that loves quality films.
