Anime Question

Which anime heroine do you consider to be the most tragic and why?

Kind of a strange question but I'm a little curious.

-SPOILERS AHEAD-

I find Enma Ai from Jigoku Shoujo to be one of the most tragic heroines of anime. When she was younger, Enma Ai was a strange little girl who had no friends besides her cousin who vowed to protect her. She was the sacrifice to her village's deity but was hidden away by her cousin because her parents didn't want to loose their child. After about six years, the village found out and had Enma Ai and her parents buried alive. Her cousin was the first one to throw dirt onto Ai, causing her once brown eyes to become red. Overtaken by revenge, she made a contract with the devil (Enma) to burn down her village but, in return, works as his helper, ferrying one's tormentors straight into the depths of hell without showing any emotion towards the victim or their target for over 400 years.

Other nominations go to-
Takano Miyo, Shion Sonozaki, Rika Furude, Rena Ryuugu, and Satoko Houjo from Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni.
Sayaka Miki, Homura Akemi, Mami Tomoe, Kyouko Sakura, and Madoka Kaname from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Shirley Fenette, C.C., and Euphemia li Britannia from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
Suigintou from Rozen Maiden.
Kanna and Misuzu Kamio from AIR TV.
Lucy/Nyu/Kaede from Elfen Lied.

Honestly, you can't choose one when it comes to Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
-SPOILER ALERT-
First we have Mami that made a contract with Kyubey in order to save her life after her and her parent got into a car accident. She was lonely and had no friends, she was then killed by a witch.
We also have Sayaka who makes a contract with Kyubey so Kyosuke's hand could heal and he could play violin. She later falls into dispare after witnessing Mami's death and finding out that Hitomi, her close friend, likes Kyosuke and becomes a witch as a result. She is then killed along with Kyoko.
Then we have Kyoko who came from a poor family. Her father was a preacher so she make a contract with Kyubey making everyone listen to him. When her father found out about the contract he killed his whole family leaving Kyoko alone. She then decides to use her magic for herself because it causes other people despair. She later sacrafices her self while fighting Sayaka.
Homura makes a contract with Kyubey when Madoka was killed. She was given the power to travel through time. She ends up traveling multiple times because she fails to protect Madoka.
Finally we have Madoka. She witnessed deaths of her closes friends and witnesses the burden of being a magical girl. She find out that when you make a contract you lose your soul. Exactly why I posted all five as honorable mentions. Any magical girl in Madoka Magica is tragic in their own way. :,(

I guess Antihero Lina Inverse from Slayers. Not that she feels the burden of tragedy, but the audience is aware of it.

1)16 years old, no home, we know nothing about her parents but we do know she's terrified of her sister.

2)She's a wanted criminal, partly of her own doing & heavily from slander, scapegoating, & being framed.

3)Because of her reputation, most people do not want to do business with her or even have her in town.

4)She has accidently destroyed several of the towns she was paid to protect.

5)She had to spend a few years with Nahga the Serpent & her annoying laugh, being teased about how short & flat-chested she is. OOOOhohohohohohhoo!

6)Even though sher goal is to save the world, she has the power to destroy it if she's not careful.

7)She is often chased by Mazoku & the police. That former want her dead, the latter want her in jail.
