I never miss an opportunity to vote. I have voted in every election and Republican primary since age eighteen, and for many years now I have voted by absentee ballot rather than on Election Day because I work as an election official on Election Day. This year's election (at least in Connecticut) is for municipal offices, and the election is this Tuesday, November 7.

I only vote for Republican candidates. But as sometimes happens, there was a position on my ballot this year without a Republican candidate, so when I recently completed my absentee ballot I decided to cast an ineligible write-in vote for that position. In some previous elections, I have written in real people or issues as ineligible votes, but this year I chose to honor four cartoon characters and two ships with my vote for "Skilene WildeHopps." Skilene, of course, is in honor of Skipper and Marlene and their shipping name from PoM, while the WildeHopps part is in honor of Nick Wilde the fox and Judy Hopps the rabbit and their shipping name from the 2016 Disney movie "Zootopia."over a year ago
My vote for Skilene WildeHopps, because it is not registered as a write-in candidate with the state, will never be officially counted or acknowledged, but it will be seen by the officials who process absentee ballots. Likely they will have no idea that I, along with serious votes, cast an additional vote for a penguin, an otter, a fox, and a rabbit, but it will be a part of my personal history and my fandom history forever. #SkileneWildeHopps2017!over a year ago
I do have a Tumblr account (sjf-penguin). Probably 85% of my posts are Zootopia reblogs, 5% other reblogs, and 10% my own thoughts and contributions (Zootopia, some PoM, some politics, some miscellaneous). I avoid the Social Justice Warmonger end of Tumblr. I'm on DeviantArt (SJF-Penguin). I'm also on Twitter (@SJF_Penguin), where I tweet fandom-related things one minute, yell about politics the next, and play hashtag games in yet another. These are the biggest places.over a year ago
* In a special Comic-Con panel in 2011, King Julien made a call on his "MePhone." But Julien isn't the only one with a MePhone. There is a mobile service called MePhone in the "Sherlock" series.
* I will eat a bag of tortilla chips that says "produced with genetic engineering" and not care. I would not, however, eat a bag of Cheezy Dibbles if Kowalski messed with it. We all have our limits.
* Julien must love memes because the word "me" is in it twice.

* The song Alice sings in "Tangled in the Web" when she inadvertently wins the Internet popularity contest reminds me a little of Michael Jackson's "Bad." Specifically, the sound of Alice's "On the jungle scene / He is the funk machine / When they play that groove / He has got to move" sounds a bit similar to when Jackson sings, "Your butt is mine / Gonna tell you right / Just show your face / In broad daylight."over a year ago
* Kid Walla, voiced by Tara Strong, may not be one specific kid but rather the group of kids in "Sting Operation." Wikipedia says the term "walla" means "a sound effect imitating the murmur of a crowd in the background."over a year ago
* In addition to having a female-dominant social system, real ring-tailed lemurs are also active only during daylight hours (so no all-night dance parties).over a year ago
* Saw "Hello, Dollface" recently. I wonder why Miss Perky's manufacturer chose to advertise on Shirtless Ninja Action Theater. Are there many viewers besides Rico who are into both dolls and shirtless ninjas?
* After nearly eight years of writing PoM fanfics, I have decided to hang up my hat writing for the fandom. My 21st and final PoM story, Off the Shelf, I published in June on FanFiction.net, DA, and AO3. It is now available on Fanpop too, published today (July 1).

* I am slowly reviewing old notes of fandom things I had once thought about doing/contributing, to decide which things may still be worth adding to Fanpop and other places. However, anything old that is not done by the end of the year I will probably never do. The fandom is so small now, a consequence of time that even Kowalski would have trouble stopping.over a year ago
I haven't given you a prop in forever and since I dropped by fanpop for a few minutes, I decided to give you one.
This one's for all the wonderful PoM fics and the hard work you put into them. You made a substantial contribution to the fandom and I'm sure all fanguins former and current appreciate your efforts. Here's to a new chapter in your FanFiction career!

Thanks for the prop! And thanks for reading my stories over the years. Thanks also to the penguins for making this all possible. I'm grateful for the opportunity I've had to contribute to our community, and I won't forget it. 🐧over a year ago
You're welcome! I look forward to seeing what you do next. Good luck, although I'm sure you'll do fine without it. :) How did you do the cute animal emoji, anyway? Or did you reply on mobile? Just curious.over a year ago
Someday America will have female presidents. But we should thank God every day that Hillary Clinton won't be the first. We really dodged a bullet on Tuesday.
Donald Trump hasn't been a reliable conservative all his life. I voted for him (I only vote Republican), but I've often had mixed feelings about him. But as the man who beat Crooked Hillary in the biggest presidential election upset since "Dewey Defeats Truman," he at least deserves a clean slate . . .
