Things had started to die down after the war, people were surprisingly coperrative about boundries and things like that and after such a long time of action and near-death experiences almost everyday, Zuko had gotten somewhat bored with his new life. As the new Fire Lord he had to be guarded at all times by at least two guards and he hardly did anything for himself anymore. Which was nice...sometimes.
Today Katara and Aang are coming for a political meeting, it'll be nice to see them again. We haven't really kept in touch very often since we'd all been busy repairing the damage the fire nation had done to the world.
I'd escaped from my guards for a few minutes after the meeting so i could take a walk alone for once and as I was passing my favorite waterfountain I saw Katara sitting there with her shoes off and her feet dangling in the water.
I had always thought she was beautiful not that it'd ever really mattered, she'd never thought of me that way anyway she was the Avatar's girl. I walked up to her anyways.
"Hey, Katara. What are you doing out here?" I say. She jumps at my voice, but when she turns around and sees me she smiles.
"Hello Zuko, I could ask you the same thing, where are your guards?"
"I kinda snuck out here to be alone"
"Oh, well I guess I'll leave then" she says and starts to stand up.
"No, don't go I didn't mean you. I just- I just get tired of being around them, the guards, all day long, I just needed to get away"
"I understand, do you ever get tired of all the politics or even just bored you know with everything?"
"Yes, that's exactly how I've been feeling latly ever since the war ended. I mean don't get me wrong I'm happy it did; I just miss the action."
"I know how you feel training isn't the same as the thrill of fighting and even though the war is over there's still bad in the world, it's the little things that bother me. Like a child without food, or poverty, or homelessness. I just want to help them so much, but I always have bigger things to worry about or not enough time. That's not how it used to be when we were travling I always helped people in need but now I have to attend meetings all the time and it just seems so pointless when such horrible things are going on and mean people are still out there especially in the fire nation. I see it all the time." she sounded wistful and sad. How he hated to see her sad, he'd do and he's do anything to see her smile again but he couldn't think of anthing he could do...then he had an idea.
"Do you remember when we found your mother's killer? How great of a team we were?"
"Yeah,we were pretty great" she said and he could she a hint of a smile on her lips. It made him more confidant to continue.
"Maybe we could be great again. Think about it, you want to help people and I want more out of life than being protected and having everything handed to me to other places, and it does feel nice to do good things. I think we could do that again become the great team we were before and we'll use our ninja disguise so none would reconize us."
"That does sound like fun but how would we get away unnoticed?"
"We'd do it at night. When everyone's asleep. I'd tell my servant to not disturb me until morning and they'd leave me alone for the night"
"Ok," she says with a real smile on now that makes his heart beat faster."Sounds like a deal."
