Chapter Five-

Artemis ducked into an alleyway at the site of the police. They probably would recognize her, even here in Germany.

After the car was gone, Artemis headed back towards the cafe where she and Holly were supposed to meet.

Holly was waiting for her, sipping hot chocolate.

"What took you?" she asked as Artemis sat down.

"Cops." Artemis replied.

Holly gave her a puzzling look.

"Long story." Artemis said.

Holly nodded and took another sip of her beverage.

"So, you found anything yet?" Holly asked after a quiet moment.

Artemis tried moving her head but it wouldn't budge. Her eyes were heavy but she forced them open. Her right eye throbbed, telling her of black eye she would soon have. She looked around but couldn't see much of anything for a few minutes. When her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, she noticed several things. One was the fact that she was standing. Second, needles had been injected into her body as long as the rest of the teams. Third, they were held in some sort of cell. Why would we be taken here? And why allow us to keep our weapons? Batman had no idea what had gone wrong. Communications were down. Cameras were offline. Systems had shut down. And when he had gotten to the base, all he saw was a mess. A battle had taken place. A bloody one by the looks of it. And the bullets were still warm. It hadn't happened that long ago. Water dripped from the ceiling and a broken light flickered. Batman went to the computer, checking the systems. Something had been tampered with. Or someone had hacked into it. But there was nothing he could do now. The battle was over. They had lost. "Do you know any Charlie Brown songs?" Megan asked as Artemis sat beside Robin.

"Yeah, three, only one has lyrics though." Robin replied, turning the notes into a song.

"Christmas time is here, Happiness and cheer, Fun for all that children call, Their favorite time of the year" The teen added lyrics.

"Snowflakes in the air, Carols everywhere, Olden times and ancient rhymes, Of love and dreams to share." Artemis continued.
