Revenge or Redemption Part III Chapter 5

Chapter 22-

The door slid open. Holly looked up from her melancholy position to see Revenge standing in the doorway. He walked in and the door closed behind him.

"You'll be happy to know the Shadow has been taken care of." Revenge said.

"Singular or Plural?"

"Two."

"Scout. Tester." Holly said, before sliding back down inter bed. "They'll be coming."

"And I'll be ready."

Holly frowned and sat up, leaning against the wall. Revenge walked over & sat down next to her. "It'll be okay. I won't let anything happen to you. Ever."

"Y'know, when you aren't in battle. You can be a pretty nice guy." Holly said. "Whoever is behind the mask must be-"

"I think the face would shock you." Revenge said.

Holly raised an eyebrow.

Revenge reached up and slowly began to peel the mask off. He got to his one before Holly put a hand on his.

"That's good enough." she breathed, pressing her lips softly against his. Revenge returned the kiss. He leaned a hand behind her head. However, before he could pull her in closer, Sarah's voice rang over the speakers.

"Revenge, come here."

Revenge raised an eyebrow and pulled away. He slid his mask back on and departed.

"What?" he asked, annoyed. He failed to notice Sarah's worried expression.

"I really am sorry. They made--unh!"

Sarah fell to the ground, a dart in her neck. Cheshire emerged from the shadows, gun pointed at Revenge.

Revenge's hand went for his utility belt, but it wasn't there. He turned to see a Shadow holding it.

"What do you want, Cheshire?" Revenge growled, hand creeping behind his back to the compartments in his cape.

"We want Holly. Preferably dead, but we can kill her if it's too bloody for you."

"You can have Holly." Revenge said.

Cheshire raised an eyebrow. Five more assassins emerged from the Shadows.

"If you can get through me."

Revenge leaped, tossing daggers at the Shadows. The exploded into smoke. Grabbing his utility belt and knocking that Shadow unconcious, Revenge hid, slipping the belt back on and emerging from the smoke.

To Shadows ran at him. He put a hand on their shoulders and flipped them. They groaned, falling unconcious. The three remaining Leaguers ran at him from different angles. He leaped up, kicking two in the face and landing a blow to the third's stomach.

He felt Cheshire's blades scrape his back. Her hand grabbed his head and he tossed her off.

His hair sprang loose as his mask fluttered to the ground.

"Well," Cheshire said, standing and leaning on her sword. "You weren't who I was expecting at all, Mr. Grant."

Revenge frowned.

"Where is she?"

Kid Flash was standing in the middle of the training room, pacing around impatiently. The rest of his team members looked at him with a mixture of pity and amusement. Today was Artemis's first practice session and she was supposed to spar with Kid Flash.

"I'm sure she's on her way," Megan said softly, placing a hand on his arm to try to calm him. She quickly retracted though when she saw him grin wolfishly at her, edging closer to her.

Artemis must have fallen asleep at some point before the movie ended, because just as the sky was growing dark Wally suddenly felt a weight on his arm. He managed to look next to him and saw that Artemis had fallen asleep on his shoulder. His first instinct was to shake her awake, but he was stopped by how relaxed she looked. Her head seemed to fit perfectly on his shoulder and she was actually smiling slightly. This didn't help Wally's predicament.

When the smoke cleared, I was missing from the spot everyone had last seen me. I was high in the canopy of fake trees, looking down on Cyborg.
”Dude, I didn’t set my cannon to disintegrate…did I?” he said. Both teams were looking very pale. I grinned and jumped down, right onto Cyborg’s head. I pressed a button and vibranium sound waves emanated from my suit. They were loud enough to shut down Cyborg’s movement.

I waited until the sun had set before leaving the cave. The night sky was setting in as I walked through the forest. I found a large oak tree and climbed up it. I climbed to the very top, then dove to the ground. I landed perfectly. I walked to the beach and started doing tai chi under the clear night sky. I ran along the beach and did an aryl. After the long ride home, I walked to the cave where I had been staying for the last little while. I had covered the entrance with vines, but inside was bright thanks to the oil lanterns I purchased. I also picked this particular spot because it had a constant trickle of water slashing down the side of the cave wall. I crushed up some heart shaped herb to enhance my senses. His head pounded and his eyes were sore. He tried opening them but found he couldn't. But he could still feel the fabric of his mask on his eyes. He sighed inwardly.
