A white-coat walked in carrying a plate of cookies and sat them down on a table and walked out locking the door behind him. The cages opened freeing the 3 kids as they raced to the plate of cookies.
“So you have your price," Nudge said with a mouthful of crumbs. "Your soul for a cookie." Fang made sure May wasn't looking and then shot Nudge the bird. Nudge giggled as she returned the favor to her brother. A tall man walked in holding a clipboard followed by two whitecoats
"This is Duerr he deals with all genetic engineered life-forms, including you three." Duerr looked at Fang.
"Is dere anysing special about you?" asked Duerr. "Anysing vorth saving?"
Fang pretended to think, gazing up at the ceiling. "Besides my fashion sense? I play a mean harmonica.” Duerr pointed to Nudge an May.
"Dere is nothing special about you two. Nothing vorth saving." He looked at the doctor. "Write vis down. De tall, dark vun--dere's nothing special about him at all," Duerr said dismissively of Fang, who hadn't moved since the doctor had come in.
"Well, he's a snappy dresser," Nudge offered. One side of Fang's mouth quirked. "What about Fang disappear-" Nudge elbowed May in the side. " I mean, uhm why are you asking so many questions?" May said with her mouth full of cookies.
"Look, we're trying to explore other options to your retirement," the whitecoat said. "You might be useful to us in other ways."
"Because we're not that useful dead," Nudge said thoughtfully.
"No," Fang agreed. "Well, maybe as doorstops."
The whitecoat made an "eew" expression.
"Or those things in a parking lot that show where the cars should stop," suggested May. She closed her eyes and went stiff, to demonstrate what it would look like. "Also an option.”
" We really are. We're trying to make you more useful. See we even made you cookies."
“Uh-huh," Fang said. "Because all you mad, evil scientists sit around whipping up batches of Pillsbury's finest during your coffee breaks." a three of the men frowned.
" Put the two winged ones back in dere cages. Keep the other one out. Prepare for retirement tomorrow morning." Duerr left as the two whitecoats shoved Fang and Nudge back in their cages.
"Guess they didn't program us to have respect for other people." Nudge looked at her brother through the cages.
"Actually I have a very good sense of irony." Fang smirked as he leaned against the cage.
"What about May, Fang? What's gonna happen to her?"
"I have no idea. But she's strong enough to handle it."
