It was Artemis. She was in her dress, her hair out of a pony and lying loosely over her shoulders. She came in and saw I wasn’t in my dress yet.
“Are you going to the dance or not!? ‘Cause it starts in TEN MINUTES AND YOU’RE NOT IN YOUR OUTFIT YET!!!” She exclaimed, pushing me into the bathroom, throwing my outfit in after me. I changed as quickly as I could without messing up my hair. I put my tiara in my still perfect hair. I slipped on my silver shoes and bangle. I walked out, and then ran out the door, down the hall, through the mission room, to right outside the lounge. I waited for Artemis and Megan to catch up. I made sure my hair was still nice, straightened my skirt, fixed Artemis’ belt, adjusted Megan’s gloves, then we all walked in together. That’s when I felt like a fool. I noticed everyone had a date, except for Wally and Super Boy, who were obviously with Artemis and Megan. Everyone had a date. Everyone except for me. I skirted the edge of the party, determinded to stay unseen. I got successfully to the kitchen part of the lounge, which was now transformed into a snack table. I sat down in a chair and scanned the crowd. Robin was with a girl who looked like Super Girl, but younger, Wally was with Artemis, Super Boy was with Megan, Batman was with Wonder Woman (called it), even Red Tornado was with a girl. I saw Black Canary walk in, alone. FINALLY! Another single girl! I thought that until I saw Green Arrow walk in after her, grab a rose from his jacket and give it to her. I sighed. I was the only single person here! I saw Wally walk over to the karaoke machine. Oh no. I wasn’t sure if I should be scared or excited. He grabbed the microphone.
“Okay everyone. I made a promise and I tend to keep it. Any requests?” he asked
I thought for a second. “Kryptonite” I suggested. I decided to test Wally. Kryptonite was one of the hardest songs on the machine. Super Boy gave me a look. I couldn’t tell if it was annoyance or anger. The song started. It was a slower, nicer, song so everyone decided it was time to slow dance. I sighed. If I had known this was a bring a date dance party, I wouldn’t have come. Kalder walked up to me, one hand behind his back. He was wearing a simple red shirt and a black tie.
“May I have this dance?” he asked
“Don’t you have a date to get back to? I said the word date like it was a curse.
“Actually, no. The girl I used to love is now dating my best friend” he explained
“I know how that feels, trust me” I said
“So, do you want to dance, or just sit here and mope around?” he repeated
“A dance would do me good. I guess that you have a flower behind your back, then?” I said
He smiled and gave me a beautiful rose. Then I took his hand and we got up and danced away.
