Hey hotgun,
i reckon....
after listening heaps of times....
enough times to just about whistle note for note every nuance...
i reckon....
close to the edge is a better introduction to a polished Yes album...but then again...
Relayer is a wild and momentous occasion..a celebration of musical and artistical freedom that, i know from experience, a lot of first time listeners "just dont get".
I get it.
But best? outrageously long song lol?
so you know that Awaken would be my favourite LONGISH song...
all i know, is that if i was a commander of an outrageous spaceship in the future, as i was approaching some far off nebula after coming out of hyperspace, i would be listening to Close to the Edge on the house wifi at the helm.
and NOT Relayer.
But cruisin down the highway in my VL Commodore? ...I'd be listening to either, wouldnt worry me as I would choose at that moment....
You never know...i might just throw in Magnification....tremendous timebomb waiting for world discovery...but only longish songs hmmm.
Perhaps hotgun, you'd care to comment now in my forum entry,

Assuming by Relayer you mean Gates of Delirium the answer is still Close to Edge by a mile.

Close to the Edge is better because it stands together as one composition. Relayer has great songs and great moments, but it's more of a conglomeration of disparate elements.
