well... here we go... again. This first chapter is NOT very interesting, but it'll pick up ok? Please rate and tell me what you think!
I stared down at my book, trying to concentrate. I really, really hated moving around so much. Starting a new school every month was getting old. Really old. Like now, I was sitting here, waiting for someone to pick me up in this hick town to take me to school. I would be surprised if they even have a school here. All I see in forest. Trees, trees, more trees. Ferns. It just goes on and on.
I glared down at my book. I was a huge reader, but lately I couldn’t concentrate. I threw my book down on the ground beside me. I whipped out my cell phone. Someone was supposed to be here twenty minutes ago to pick me up. Who? I didnt know. Someone had called our house from the school and said they would send someone to show me around. But that someone was a no show. So not only was I here, alone, it looked like it was going to start raining, and I was going to be late for my first day of school.
I raked a hand through my hair, a bad habit I had picked up over the years. I grabbed up my book again. I Was going to read this. I heard a vehicle approach, and start slowing. Don’t look up, don’t look up, I told myself over and over. I really didn’t want to be kidnapped.
“Shayda Black?”
The voice was deep and husky, and made my insides melt. I refused to look up. This was messed up. There was no way I was going to let a kidnapper’s voice turn me on.
“That’s me.” I snapped. This kidnapper even knew my name. That was kinda scary.
“ I’m your ride to school. Greg’s sick, so that’s why I’m here.”
His voice would not stop doing funny things to my insides. I slowly forced my eyes up. I just about choked. He was leaning against the side of his truck, arms crossed over his muscled chest. A gray shirt covered his upper half like a second skin, showing ever muscle bulge. My eyes traveled lower. Lightly worn jeans clad his long legs. I swallowed, hard. My eyes shot to his face and lingered. Dark chocolate hair surrounded his face, hanging in a sexily shaggy way. But as I watched, the sun broke through the clouds highlighting his hair with Auburn. His intense emerald green eyes were fixed on my face. I tried to regain my cool. No guy had ever shaken me up this badly before, just by looking so good.
“ And who are you?” I finally managed to speak.
His full lips tilted into a half smile, revealing two dimples. My knees sagged.
“ Rafe Jordan.” He held out a hand. I reluctantly placed my hand In his, biting my lip as tingles shot up my arm. His large hand curled around mind, pulling me up to stand beside him. I couldn’t look away as his eyes drilled into mine. Now that I was close, I could see the hint of dark shadow tracing his strong jaws. His hand hadn’t released mine, and I could feel the calluses against my palm.
“ Its nice to meet you.” I breathed quietly.
He released my hand so fast, I almost stumbled back.
“ Yeah. Same here. Get in.” he nodded toward the passenger side of the truck.
“ Okayy then.” I mumbled to myself and gathered my stuff. He already had the truck running by the time I climbed in. As soon as I shut the door, Rafe was speeding down the road.
“ Is this a big school?” I asked after a moment.
“ No. There’s maybe a hundred of us or so.”
“A hundred?” My mouth was practically open. That was so.. Small.
“Yeah. We’re all pretty tight.” He answered curtly.
I pressed my lips together, determined not to say anything else. He didn’t seem like a very big talker. As the silence drug on, my temper mounted. Just because he was smoking hott didn’t mean he had to be rude.
I was just opening my mouth to let him have a peace of my mind when he brought the truck to a stop.
“ We’re here.”
I slammed my mouth shut and turned to look out the window. The brick building look oddly out of place surrounded by the thick forest.
Rafe was already climbing down out of the truck. I quickly scrambled to get out. Rafe led the way into the school, walking quickly, not even looking to see if I was following.
As soon as we were in the doors, a dark haired girl rushed toward me, smiling. She stopped and look me from head to toe. Rafe rolled his eyes and leaned against a nearby wall. She paused a moment, and the spoke. What she said, threw me into confusion.
“ Are you one of us?”
hmm... next one WILL be better...i promise
