Since I haven’t done an article in forever and my Nostalgia Critic binge is putting me in the review mood I decided I will review the three main X Men T.V shows. This isn’t a countdown mind you. That’s mostly because I can’t choose my number 2 spot but also because I really like them all for different reasons. So grab your bowl of whipped mocha ganache and enjoy my rant (hopefully).
X Men TAS
I’ll say it now this is my favorite X Men show ever. They did the characters well, the stories were great, and it brought the X Men to the general audience. Sure the animation mostly sucked and the villains couldn’t use real guns but the good defiantly outweighed the bad. My favorite part of this series was, say it with me now, Cable. I am a Cable fan girl to the extreme and the only show to portray him did it really well. They even showed us his relationship with Tyler, something we barely see in the comics. Overall a great T.V show and the one that did the characters the best.
X Men: Evolution
I’ll admit I don’t show much love for this show but I really do like it. A lot of it is this is probably the first X Men show I saw and the first one I got really invested in. It changed a lot of things but it made it work though some characters less than others (namely goth Rogue and Wanda). Another great thing about this show is the fact that it introduced a lot of the movie fans (like myself) to the wider X Men universe. If I had to pick a few things to complain about it would be that the animations was very simple and everyone had the same face and the stories dragged at times. Especially the ones before the third season when mutants were still a secret. Maybe it's just because teenager issues bore me but I can't watch a season 1 marathon. I liked the show but it could improve in places.
Wolverine and the X Men
The most recent X Men cartoon is also the most disappointing. Not because the characters or the story were bad but because the cliff hanger ending that will most likely never be resolved. Other than that I thought it was a good show. It retooled the characters in a nice way especially Polaris. And it’s the only show to have Magneto as a true anti hero. This also had the best animations of any of the shows. I really loved the character designs. A few downsides would be the title (because Lord knows we don’t have enough Wolverine) and that fact that most lesser known characters got only really short cameos. I feel the cameos were better than in Evolution because it was easier to recognize the characters but I still would like to see more than a cameo. That brings me to the fact that Madrox was a villain just like in X3. This pisses me off because I really like the character but I will rant on it somewhere else. Overall a nice show that never realized its full potential.
Again these aren’t in order of most loved and no matter which show is your favorite they are all good. If you disagree with everything I say please tell me in the comments with as much profanity as possible and if you disagree with a few things I said again leave a comment. Hell even if you agree with me leave a comment just to satisfy my love of internet social interaction.
