I love doodling while brainstorming! It's very important in channeling out my creativity and getting into the whole mood of writing and typing.

Most of what I write is for visual purposes (right now, my main project is co-writing a computer game, and I'm also the sole artist on the project) so I guess it's only natural for me to do a lot of doodling when coming up with new plot ideas, trying to develop characters' personalities, etc.

I think it can be a nice thing to do even if your writing isn't going to be used for visual works too though. :) Like you say, it's a good way to get your creativity going.
