A Sonnet for Reid
You're always there for me
Even when I'm a little pissed
Waiting just to see
What way you may assist
In my chores and dutiful tasks
As well as in the pleasing
Sojourns when she asks
For a ride, lightly teasing
With that careless innuendo
The trip's long and hard or nice and fast
Coming complete with diminuendo
As we slow and stop. Others race past.
What would I do without you, indeed,
Ready to take me anywhere, link?
An aside: this was written for the link in response to one of its prompts.

I wonder, sometimes, if she ever thinks of me.
If she knows that I kept only one picture of her. Anything else was just too painful. In the picture, she doesn't know I am taking it until the camera flash goes off. She has been sitting at the desk in her old bedroom, and she is half-smiling.
**************************************************
I walk up to her, not breaking eye contact. Nothing existed but her.
The little girl was perched on her hip.
I trailed my fingers down her jawline. She still didn't move.
"Why did you leave?"

About an hour after she called me, I was still sitting there. Unresponsive.
The phone rang again. I forced myself to pick it up.
It was Serena. She was crying.
"I couldn't do it," she said, before hanging up again.
Serena
I couldn't do it. As soon as I was out of the clinic, I drove home. When I'd parked my car, I couldn't hold the tears back.
I looked up, shocked. I had gone to my mother's house.
I stumbled out of the car, and my mother came running out. I collapsed in her warm arms, still sobbing.
Kate
I hear my daughter. Crying. I run outside, and hug my angel, my little angel.
I don't try to make her tell me what's wrong. She'll tell me when she wants to. I know her that well.
