CHAPTER NINE:
On the drive back to my apartment, I cannot help but feel something is amiss. What it is, I don’t have a clue. As I continue the drive, I once more delve into my past…
CRYSTAL FALLS: 1850
I awaken an hour later, still in pain from the sun’s rays. I feel Perry’s dried blood on my face, and find myself disgusted at what I have done. I cannot believe the situation I’ve landed myself in. About ten minutes later, Perry returns to the cave. From where I do not care, or even want to know. I feel nothing but burning hatred and contempt for him. I still do not know what prevented me from killing him earlier, or at least trying. Then I remember how easily he snapped the neck of the man he turned nearly a week earlier. That I believe is the reason. Perry smiles when he notices I’m awake. “How do you feel?” he asks, and I notice a tone of happiness in his voice. “Horrible. I’m in so much pain and can’t stop feeling this lust for blood.” I say furiously. Perry nods. “Yes. That is horrible at first, isn’t it?” he mutters. “But here’s the good news. It gets better Ash. And after awhile, you genuinely stop caring about the people you kill. If you even want to, you don’t have to kill them, but for me I ponder, where’s the fun if you don’t kill?” I feel the anger still burning up inside of me with every word I hear come out of his mouth. “Why didn’t you kill me then?” I ask him. Perry shrugs. “Didn’t see the sport in it. Besides, I wasn’t hungry at the time. Another reason, is because I truly do respect and admire your father. He is one of the only people who gives a crap about other people’s lives. He’s not sexist nor do you and your mother seem to be. He’s a genuinely caring person.” Perry trails off. “Remember what I said earlier? Before you passed out?” he asked. I do remember, and I know at this point it is pointless to lie about it. “You said you had a proposition for me, but whatever it is, I won’t take it. I’d rather die than help you in any way.” Perry nods. “I thought that you’d say something like that, which is why I’ve got a backup plan.” He says, and once again, I detect the note of happiness in his voice. “What’s your backup plan?” I ask. Perry smiles. “If you don’t take my proposition, your father will die like your mother, only worse.” He says smiling. “But I really don’t want it to have to come to that Ashley. Like I said before, I honestly have much respect for the man, but I’ll do what I have to. And if you try to kill yourself to stop my fun, your father WILL suffer.” He says smiling. “Fine Perry! I’ll hear you out. But might I say you are truly a sociopath you freak!” Perry smiles sinisterly. “I knew you’d see it my way Ash. And please, call me by my real name. Pike.” He says, showing his fangs.
CRYSTAL FALLS: OCTOBER 29, 1995:
I return to my apartment, once again feeling contempt for Pike. As I climb out of my car, I smell a scent. I know right then, a vampire is in my apartment. I sneak up the stairs and find the door open. Just when I think I’ve got the element of surprise on my side, I hear a voice. “You know Ash, I can sense you too.” I stop suddenly. It is Pike’s voice. I haven’t heard it in nearly thirty years. “Come in Ashley. We have so much to discuss.” I hear. “I didn’t come here to fight.” He replies. I can tell he’s telling the truth. This time, and reluctantly walk into the apartment. The scent of blood is all over. But I see no space it could be coming from. I see Pike sitting on the couch, smoking a cigar. “Ashley! It’s been too long!” he says, smiling. “Not long enough.” I mutter. Pike shrugs and stands up. “I’m sorry you feel like that.” He says casually. “Why is the scent of blood everywhere?” I ask. Pike shrugs. “Details. Hate ‘em. We’ll get to that in a moment. But first, I saw on the news that you killed my lackeys. Sure they meant nothing, but I created them. Just like I created you. And you let yourself live all these years.” I stare at him “I didn’t have a choice.” Pike smiles. “After your dad died you did. But let’s not stay stuck in the past. I want information out of you. And you’re going to help me.” He says smiling. “What information?” I ask him. Pike smiles. “I’ve heard there’s a telepath here in town. And that you know where he or she is.” I stare shocked, and realize I’ve just given away that I do know something. Pike smiles. “And you’re going to tell me who it is and where I can find them.” I shake my head. “Why do you need a telepath so bad?” I ask. He smiles. “Let’s just say my plans depend on it. Now you will help me, or you WILL pay the consequences. What’s it going to be?” he asks. “I’ll never tell.” I say, thinking of Harold and realizing he’s become involved whether I like it or not. Pike smiles. “Then it’s time to see what’s in your closet.” I watch as he walks over to the closet and opens the door. To my horror, Danny is in there, tied up and bleeding. Pike smiles. “You could’ve saved him Ash. You still can, but to do it, you’ll have to break a promise you made to yourself all those years ago.” Before I can do anything, he slices into Danny’s stomach. “You know the only way to save him now. “I’ve got to run. Do a bit more digging, then I’ll take out any other friends you’ve made here. And give you the choice again.” With that, Pike leaves the room. I swiftly take the tape off Danny’s mouth, and hear him groan in pain. “Help me! Call someone! Do SOMETHING!” he pleads. I dare not untie him, he would bleed out to quickly. I know he will be dead before help would ever arrive. I look at him sadly, and know I have a choice to make. If I do what Pike wants me to, I can save him. If not. He will die. I sigh. I ponder what to do, then against my better judgement, I make a decision.
Elena’s POV
The night got colder as I walked further away from the Founder’s Day party. Just a few more steps and I’ll be at the school.
I reached the school’s front door but when I tried to open them but they wouldn’t budge. I gave up and sighed. I crossed my arm’s trying to keep warm. Looking around trying to find another way in, though the only way I knew of was the doors in the back of the school.
I slowly walked my self to the back doors. I grabbed the frost bitten door handle and pulled it open. Once I walked...

Never did I think that the person I was to face would be the beginning of a war I never wanted to get involved in.

I sat confused and dazed, looking at the numbers that swam before my eyes. There was the dull humming the back of my mind that reminded me I done this essay with years and years of repitition, but there was no confidence in me that proved the evidence. I slumped back in my seat, tossing the pencil across the desk and closing my eyes, drifting into a light sleep.

1: New York Minute
Choices.
We make them everyday, all day. Most of the time, the ones we do make are small and insignificant to our lives: what we wear, what we eat, which way we go to work, and the things we shop for. All are mundane and we hardly think twice when we make them.
With age, the amount of choices we make and the consequences of them are more severe than mommy and daddy grounding us: whether or not to take that hit from the joint, whether or not to drive home after one too many beers, whether or not to cheat on a test or a significant other, whether or not to race the guy in the...

Have you felt the torture of hate?
Like a poisonous cloud, it will wait,
Until you burn in the flames of fury.
Then it will creep up and incapacitate.
Alas! You will choke, and don’t try to deny your anger.
It is too late.

Hate is like grasping a red hot coal,
Intent on throwing it at another soul,
Instead it is you, yourself, who burns,
Then your own anger shall take its toll,
You’ll bring about your every mistake and failure.
You’ll be alone.
For the first couple months, that's what it really feels like; darkness, always there like the puppy you always wished for to follow you around.
For the first couple months, that's what it really feels like; darkness, always there like the puppy you always wished for to follow you around.
It always starts with darkness. Just like the rumors that vampires were made to sign Satan's book with blood as the registration, it was thought that a vampire's soul was consumed by darkness. For the first couple months, that's what it really feels like; darkness, always there like the puppy you always wished for to follow you around. Sadly, I never had a puppy, so this was all awkwardly new to me.
"That's how it's going to be for a while." Adrian told me one day while I woke up from a deep sleep, facing the sunlight. I had forgotten that we were now affected by that sunlight more than humans....

You may think that vampires are the most godly creatures on earth, but it takes more than just a bite to be beautiful.
You may think that vampires are the most godly creatures on earth, but it takes more than just a bite to be beautiful.
When those three were together, they represented the family I never had.
Adrian was just Adrian; even though he was astonishingly ragged in appearance, there was something about him that symbolized him being the younger brother. He was dangerous, fast, and cunning with his tongue. I almost thought, that one time I saw him and Marcus battle it out, that Marcus should just give up before he got himself killed. Of course, Marcus knew that already, and they weren't even really fighting to begin with. With what started with growls and ferocious snapping ended up being laughs and pats on the shoulder....

But I guess this is the price for not agreeing with a vampire.
But I guess this is the price for not agreeing with a vampire.
I woke up to the wailing of birds in the distance and the acrid smell of compost nearby. I couldn't see; it appeared that the night sky blended in with the darkness behind my eyelids when closed. I felt my body plastered against a marble slab that was the same length as my being, and sweat was misted against my skin. Strangely, the only way I could tell this was by leaning my head down to take a peek, realizing my skin was so white that it would be hard to tell if I had any blood at all in my body. My flesh felt numb, and shivering once brought my senses into a lighter view, but only enough...

Enough is enough, right? After you feel like you just got punched into the stomach fifty times should be enough to let you know that you should stop fighting...right?When you can literally feel your heart ready to burst out of your chest and your soul completely crumble into pieces, pieces that travel all the way down to your toes?

You'll know when your heart is torn...right?

Well I know that mine is,completely actually. After you just lost the one person you thought you would be with forever. After giving them so many chances, that you ran out.Now that they're gone.....gone with your ex-best friend.After...

Chapter 4

After I left the two losers, I mean best friends, I walked to homeroom. Unfourtunatly, Jake was in my homeroom, and automatically he started asking me fifty thousand questions. How did know? Wow, my friends are such freaking nerds.

"So I heard you like a new girl." he said trying not to talk too loud. But sadly some girls and guys nearby heard him.

I was immediately bombared with questions. "Oh my god? How can you fall for such a slut, Joshie!!! You would look so much better in bed, next to me." said Brianna. Oh so that caramilk girl was a slut now? She at least covers her ass!

"What...

I was bored. I was very bored. There was nothing to do; not a single thing. I grabbed my iPod and turned on the Numa Numa song, but I was still bored. I turned on my laptop and begun writing a short story, which you may very well be reading now, but my boredom was left uncured. Riding in the car was boring, and I wished I had a cell phone to text my friends with, but alas, I was practically broke. I only had around seventy-five bucks, and that was from Christmas. If I had kept my twenty that I had used for IMVU credits, well, then maybe I’d have enough for a go phone at the least. But I had...

The three of us sat there watching the chick flick. I was in grossed in the storyline, Belinda was doing her homework and every time someone said the word love, Ruby nearly chucked. It had been three days since we had seen the protectors. Belinda sighed and put the book she was reading down. “Want to order pizza?” She asked, Ruby shrugged and I shook my head. “Why can’t we order pizza?” Belinda asked, I didn’t really want to tell the why but if you have sisters you understand....

Waking up to the sound of my parent’s shouting I got up to change. Looking out the window, I saw the world was bright and colorful. Many would think it the best time of the day but to me it was the gloomiest time of all. It was the same thing every morning my parents would wake me due to their constant arguments, going to school, and returning back home. Life I felt was just plain boring.

This morning, was no exception because my parents were picking at each other again. I crept into the kitchen to get some breakfast. What I saw was horrifying; the kitchen was a total mess. Nothing was in...

Morgan Sterns was sipping up the last drips of her coffee. She was going to need every last drop if she was going to work late enough to finish all of her reports. She had reports on all kinds of things. Serial killers, counterfeiters, asassination attempts, the list went on and on.
Why do the FBI get handed everything, she wondered. But what she really wanted to know was why she was the one always stuck with work when most of the other agents and anaylists were just standing around telling jokes and drinking coffee. Morgan got back to her seat and pushed her almond hair out of her eyes and...

Though I wanted people to see me, and now a lot did, so I smiled and looked for a place to sit. I saw a group of girls, a group of hot guys,a lot of black-wearing people, and some others that I didn't care to know.
Then there was a table that was mostly empty except for one very cute boy. as I walked toward him I saw more of his features: he was pale-I wondered why-,skinny and muscular-did he play a sport?-,and light blond...

Lasting Happiness
She stared anxiously at the pot of water on the stove, compelling it to boil. Though the old axiom warned of its counter effect, she had long since given up on trying to look away from the pot, unable to tear her eyes away. Tapping her foot impatiently, she began to sing quietly to herself to pass the time. It was a merry song, the one she always used to entice travelers from the road to come to her window. As she sang she only wished her tune could charm heat into the water of her pot the way it charmed most of the passerby. The thought only seemed to bring her further impatience. The impurity...
