Randy with Les Bailey
Randy with Les Bailey
Author and writing coach Randy Jernigan is not a man who likes to sit on his laurels when there's something that needs to be accomplished.

With his newest book's success ebbing, The Life and Career of Marie Osmond, the author is about to release a second celebrity sketch in his "Stars" series, on comedian Ellen DeGeneres.

Upon meeting up with Randy at his favorite Asian eatery on a beautiful Sunday morning in his home state of Utah, we hug, exchange pleasantries (I can't help but gasp that my friend has lost an enormous amount of weight--180 pounds to be exact) then we enter the establishment and take a seat.

My intention for this interview is simple--to get up close and personal with the man that inspired me to write professionally. I first met Randy seven years ago when I took his creative writing class at his Writers Studio of Utah, where I lived at the time. So much in my life has changed since then--for the better, I might add. I'm now a professional writer, living in New York City and actually making a living at a craft I'm very passionate about.

What made you decide to leave magazine writing and would you ever consider going back?

"I began to feel that I had gone as far as I could go as a writer in that genre. I loved what I was doing. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the opportunity that I was given to write for everyone of those magazines, but as you well know, a writer needs to keep growing and climb other mountains. There were other genres I wanted to work in and perfect.
One thing I've always taught my writing students is that you need to develop your talents in other genres so that you don't stagnate.
Would I ever go back to writing for magazines--I've learned to never say never. I'm very grateful for the experience and If I find something to write about I'm sure I would submit a lead into one of the editors and maybe they'd want me to do it. Who knows?"

When you announced your "Stars" book series, the tabloids seemed to attack you--was that a bad experience for you as a writer?

"It was the worst time of my freelancing career. The first names we announced were Daniel Radcliffe and Ellen DeGeneres and right from the start the tabloids went on attack. I hated waking up in the morning and turning on my computer because I knew there would be some terrible story, accusing me of saying things I never said. One tabloid accused me a saying Dan was an alcoholic and drank on the Harry Potter set. Another accused me a saying that Ellen and Portia were filing for divorce and couldn't get along. Nothing could have been further from the truth. One online rag actually said that they had an advanced copy of my Ellen book and that I had said such and such--when I hadn't even written the book yet.
Most of my friends that know me well, know of my affection for both Dan and Ellen and that I would never have written such things.
It was a terrible time for me. Even after I published my Marie title several haters began posting mean-spirited comments about it, all because of the influence of those tabloids. Was just a terrible time for me but I made it through."

I hear you're going to reopen The Writers Studio--is that true?

"I'm seriously considering it. I think there's nothing I love more than working with new writers. I've been working with Les Bailey of late. He's a spectacular author and has such a passion for his craft that he inspires me to be better at it. He came to me a while back and asked me to help with his new project, The Vampire Game--it was so amazing that I just wanted to be involved. I do some press work and oversee publicity for the project. I'm so proud of Les--his talents are so amazing and he's such a great guy. I've totally fallen in love with him. All my writer have a special place in my heart."

I recently read that you're working on a new television project about God for a British market. What can you tell me about this project?

"Not a lot, just because it's not customary to spill too many beans about TV projects. But I'm thrilled to get to work on a television project again. Especially for a British market--you know I love anything English! It's working title is God, Faith and Humanity and it's a look at how people's faith in a higher being has the power to effect mighty change in people's lives. I'm right in the middle of working on it now--I'll keep you informed about its progress."

What advice would you give a new writer that wants to get serious about his or her craft?

"Find a good writing class and get involved. I've found that when you get a group of writers in one room the synergy is nothing less than amazing. It can inspire you to new heights and lead you in the right direction. Always write about things you have a passion for. My best selling book was Losing to Win! My book where I tell my story about my weight-loss and new way of living. It was a subject that I had a serious passion for so I you could see the passion in my writing.
And never give up on your writing dreams!

Chapter 2 – Jason
Mary just collapsed, unconscious, at my feet. I think some time in the healing department would help, but also, a day off of practice couldn’t hurt either.
I scooped her up and set her in the backseat of the truck and hopped in the front with Coach Smith. “What’s next, Coach?” I asked as I buckled my seat belt.
“Whatever she can tell, if anything, will be found out later. For now, we’ve got to get her back to the school.” Coach started up the truck and started to drive.
“What was Mr. Johnson?” I asked, not really looking at Coach at all. I was looking...

The words drift to me, as if carried on the wind. I look up toward the sky to try and get a glimpse of what-or whom-ever sent that thought to me. Of course, there is not a thingthere. I continue my walk.
I'm stepping over McCafferty's bridge that crosses over Dalvin's canal when a cool zephyr sweeps across my body. I shiver, wrapping my arms tight around my waist. Autumn is creeping in on us, here in west virginia. As i step off the bridge, i hear it again. Only, closer this time...
I decide to pick up my pace and i scurry home.
Once there, i find my father with a knife protruding from his back sprawled on the kitchen floor. A pool of blood surrounds him.
Before i even start screaming, i think to myself, "i knew it was gonna be one of THOSE days..."

I Know I'm not crazy but I can feel colors,
Blue was the single tear among all others streaming dowm my face,
purple were the bruises covering my body,
Red was the blood running down my mouth,
my eyes,
my throat
down to the floor,
Black was the hopeless darksurrounding me,
white showed the blankness
of what my life
was about to be
...
and yet
...
I couldn't help but smile
Some people think I mean to like Pain no matter how bad.
Better people think it means when
there is no hope left you can still have one reason to smile!

Waking up to a splitting headache, my eyes fluttered open. My long blonde hair tangled around my face and I struggled to brush it out of my way. Achingly sitting up, I stared around my surroundings.

Rock solid cemented ground lay beneath me as I stumbled to my feet. With confusion, I turned in circles to see I was standing outside in the rain, but not where I had just been. I was outside of the pulsating white hospital that occupied my hometown, and my jean jacket and designer t-shirt were somewhat drenched in blood. My blood.

Sprinting into the ER of the hospital, I began to scream at the top...

The sun had set hours ago, the bright, red orb drifting slowly, languidly, below the horizon. Pinks and oranges had covered the sky, the colors mixing and swirling as they hid the blue of daytime and allowed the rainbow that marked dusk to come, a rainbow that slowly darkened, eventually plunging into black as night approached. The streets were quiet and deserted. Once or twice, the lights inside the ancient lamp posts that were lined up like tall pillars on the streets flickered, casting an eerie darkness all over. There was a majestic palatial house that stood alone at the end of the lane...

“Aha!” An aging man shouted with a hearty voice, while the tinkering of machines could be heard in the distance. “I’ve finally solved the theorem!” Throwing dusty gloves aside the man – goggle-eyed and dirt covered – grinned at his son.

Rolling his eyes at his father, Matt crossed his arms at him. “This is the twelfth time you’ve “solved” the theorem this week. Just face it, it’s never going to work, dad,” Matt stated with a good-natured annoyed smile.

“Ah, my boy, don’t be so quick to judge,” the father laughed, his voice echoing around the plastic room. “There’s...

“Yes, mom. I’ll be home in fifteen minutes,” I stated into my cell phone that had almost become permanently attached to me ear, while I drove along the back roads near the outskirts of town. Rolling my eyes at my mother, I gripped the wheel tighter as the windshield wipers of my car brushed away the showering water of April weather. “Don’t worry so much, it’s not like I won’t be there in one piece.”

“I know,” the worry strained voice of her mother murmured through the phone line. “It just makes me nervous to know that a child of mine, my nineteen year old daughter is driving...

Grey set up his gun on top of the hill overlooking the mansion on the lake. His mark was a woman that had killed her husband in order to receive the life insurance payoff and his rich lifestyle without him. The reason he was there, was because the murder was unsolved without any competent evidence of her crime, so she couldn’t collect the insurance just yet. Her name was Clara Trice-Alrin, a thirty-one year old woman with long dark brown hair, solid brown eyes and standing six inches shorter than him at her height of 5’6. He had her picture in his back pocket, and the woman that had just...

The steady vibrations of my mother’s jeep soothed me into a sleepy calm. That and the fact that we had just left Christmas Eve dinner at my grandmother’s, including a hefty supply of turkey. I could have fallen asleep two hours ago when my dad had gotten a call asking him to go into work.
Resting my elbow on the passenger’s door of the car, my nine year olf sister Gabrielle tapped my shoulder. Turning my attention towards her, she spoke, “Amie, if we don’t get home before ten will Santa forget to come to our house?” Her big green eyes glanced excitedly into my own green ones.
I rolled...

My name is Raine; I was born December third, seventeen years ago. I have nine birth parents but have only met four of them. The parents I grew up with did not conceive me, but did pay for me. My name is Raine, and I was genetically created.

Nineteen years ago my mother Diana Parks and my father Chris Parks learned that they could not conceive on their own after six years of trying; including four miscarriages. When they went to get tested on their ability to have a surrogate carry their child, they were told the combination of their DNA would mix into something unstable and bring about a great...

This the basic idea for my sci-fi story, i hope you like it and have suggestions.

The story centers around the three dimensions Earth 13, Earth 22 and Earth 31,
Earth 13 tries to takeover Earth 31 and destroy Earth 22 because 31 has very rich natural resources but 22 is a very serious threat.

The fourth dimension is called Avalon and the inhabitants tries to get the others to stop the fighting, but instead of doing it themselfes they recruit eight persons from the three earths and gives them the power open portals to get to the other dimensions by themselfes.

Creatures/Inhabitans
Earth 13
Humans,Vampires...
