No I dont think they killed wolves because of the movies, religious believes, or government law. For Ranchers that's a different story a rancher will shoot anyone but they look at the wolves as a bad animal and there are laws that the government made for ranchers no to kill a wolves unless it eats their cows, chickens, ect.

Some people think that wolves are bad or a threat to them but they got to understand a wolf is not a bad animal but wolves are a threat to rancher's life stock. Though there are in other countries to not to shoot a wolf regardless of the wolf eating his stock but they can make other defenses to scare wolfs away from their life stock.

I think a grown adult would have to have a very simple to child-like mind to allow some of these answers that do not seem the norm. I can see superstition in back areas/countries in times past because caution and concern were labeled with spiritual and fear for reasons, but in modern times, perhaps pelts are sold. I never agreed. i know faery-tales make the wolf to be bad, but I never saw it like that. they are just a wild animal. They are capable of complex emotions, intellect, & feelings, but they will kill you if they need. To people in rural areas - they have concerns (valid or not always) over pets, small children, & livestock/chickens etc. Where I live we have cougars and therefore a person would not normally hesitate to shoot on sight IF you saw it first. Pelts of animals like wolves were string on fence lines to deter packs of others from entering property. It was a warning. I do not see these animals as the bad guy or like this. I cannot understand hunting for sport either but whatever laws that regulate where I live have to do with population contro; whether I agree or not, but certainly not because of some werefolf horror movie! Wolves are about extinct where I live SADLY. (I would not like my cat to be eaten thou- and even my big dog is no match for mountain lions and things here). I would be inclined to believe it is a practical theory or one that has little sympathy. (Just the way I see)

It's all of the above. Plus there are just people who don't give a shit, shoot a wolf and then spout off "Oh my God! I thought it was a coyote! MY BAD!" Like that's any better.
