WALL-E Opinions on how global destruction/recycling/waste etc. is portrayed to suit the audience.

Wall-E is one of Pixar's finest works and most endearing romances (especially considering the lack of dialogue!) but the story also gives a strong moral to its audience of how waste and consumerism may lead to the deterioration of humanity and the planet.
For a project in Film Studies I am exploring how animated films can present such topics in a way that children will enjoy them and not be threatened or scared (by means of comic/romantic genre etc) and that adult viewers can be influenced or interested by the more serious meanings.
Any opinions on how this is achieved in comparison to my other chosen films (An American Tail, Grave of the Fireflies) will be greatly appreciated and credited in my bibliography :)
