When I first started writing drafts for this article I was going to write about the next-gen consoles leaving out good ol' couch; but after mulling over it, I came to the conclusion that both online and couch multiplayer are equally in use, though they are separated by the console boundaries.

Recently I've noticed that a lot of FPS's seem to be online-multiplayer only and that there is no couch-multiplayer mode in these games.
