Chapter 8- I Fight A Demon
I guess I would say I lived a good life, even though I died young. I thought for sure I was going to heaven, but when I got my senses back, I felt hot.
Oh great, I thought. I went the other way.
I heard deep breathing around me. I grew scared. I didn’t even want to open my eyes. Who knows what ugly demon is right over me? I acted fast. I swung my fist through the air, looking to find the creature. I hit the thing in the jaw. The beast cried out in agony and fell on the ground.
“You want a piece of me sucker?” I cried out.
Still with me eyes closed, I jumped into the air. I knew I landed right next to the thing, for I heard its groans.
“Well, then take this!” I yelled.
I kicked the thing in the groin several times. My kicks were so hard that each time I kicked I heard a crunch.
It must be a male demon, I thought.
“Take me to heaven now you monster!” I shouted.
I got on top of him and punched his face a few times. It tried to grab my hands.
“You want more, huh?” I asked as I continued punching.
“Natasha—” It grunted.
“Take this! And that!” I yelled.
“Natasha—”
“You think you’re so tough but you’re not!”
“NATASHA! Open your eyes, woman!” it screamed.
I did as it said. Lying under me was Puck. One hand covered his bloody nose, the other covering his groin. We were in Sabrina and Daphne’s room. The heat I felt earlier was coming from the baseboard.
“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry!” I apologized, getting off of him. I tried to help him up but he refused.
All of a sudden, Sabrina showed up in the doorway.
“What happened?” she asked as she rushed to Puck.
“I thought he was a demon and—”
“Boy, is he that ugly?” Sabrina interrupted, humor in her tone.
“I had my eyes closed,” I explained. “Anyway, I thought he was a demon so I punched him all over his face and kicked him in his—”
“Nuts! Natasha’s awake!” I heard someone teasing me from across the room. I turned around and saw Daphne in the doorway. She ran to me smiling and gave me a big hug. “I thought we lost you!”
“So did I,” Sabrina said, but she didn’t sound so happy. “Natasha, what were you thinking? You almost died. And you brought Daphne along, too!”
“Sabrina, it’s okay,” Daphne assured her as she let go of me. “She didn’t invite me to go along. I followed them. I wanted to go.”
“Daphne you are only seven!” Sabrina scolded. “And, Natasha, you and Puck just walk off on your own without telling anyone!”
“We don’t have to!” Puck yelled. He was now completely on his feet. “I am old enough to go off on my own!”
“Not her!” Sabrina argued. She pointed a finger at me.
“Look at yourself, Grimm! You’re twelve! She’s thirteen. You run away by yourself all the time!” Puck argued. “And you shouldn’t be yelling at her! She’s just like another you. Besides, going to the mountains was my idea. Natasha followed along because I told her to.”
I was so glad Puck was sticking up for me.
“Then that’s your fault,” Sabrina hissed, shooting him a look.
Her face was as red as a tomato. She stood there breathing, enraged, for a few seconds, staring at Puck, then me, then Daphne. She turned around and walked over to her bed. She sat down with a heavy sigh. She said in a quiet voice, “Just somebody tell me what you were looking for in the mountains.”
“They were looking for a book that has to do with the musical spell,” Daphne answered.
“How did you find about this book? How did you know where to look?” Sabrina asked.
“I had a dream about it,” I replied, trying not to give away too much information.
“So you just decided to follow your dream?” Sabrina questioned. I couldn’t tell whether she was being sarcastic or not.
“Yes.”
“The book is more important than we think,” Puck added. “We believe that it also included the spell that possessed Victoria. That means it’s the same book your late grandfather used, Grimm.”
“How do you know that it’s the same book?” Sabrina asked.
“The man who took it waved the book in my face,” I explained. “It was just enough so I could see what the title was. It’s called Spells from Mars. Your grandpa wrote down in the journal that the book said its spells were from Mars.”
“Do you think the man who took it made the red mist spell?” Sabrina said.
“I don’t know. All I know is that he and his wife made the musical spell. They sold the spell to the author of the book. The man took the book away from me because he had to get it back to the author. From my understanding, the author wants to use it to get revenge on humans who ever got in his way…including us I think. The woman called the author of the book ‘Master’. Master of what?” I said.
“I don’t know,” Sabrina muttered. “Do any of you have an idea who cast the musical spell from the book?”
Puck and I exchanged a look.
“Nope,” I lied.
“Well I think it’s one of the so-called master’s followers,” Sabrina assumed.
We went silent for a little while.
“Natasha, you better get home,” Sabrina broke the silence. “Enjoy your day off.”
“I will,” I assured her.
I got my portal remote off the nightstand. Before I brought up my portal, I said, “Remember, the Winter Wonderland dance is this Friday.”
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” Sabrina said with a smile.
“I’ll go too,” Puck told me.
“Good. I’ll see you in school tomorrow,” I said to them. “Bye!”
I brought up the portal to my room and stepped through.
Enjoy!
