Chapter 2- Katara

In the morning, Katara sat up in her bed. She yawned and stretched her arms, feeling good. Sunlight was coming from the window and it hit Katara’s face. Normally, she would have groaned and covered her eyes. Today was different. She was feeling great, and enjoyed the sun’s heat on her smooth, light brown skin.
She got out of her bed and got dressed. She was glad that her and her friends bought this home in the Fire Nation. It was small, nice, and beautiful.
After Katara was done, she went downstairs and found that breakfast was already cooking. Usually she makes all the meals, and was surprised when she saw her sixteen-year-old brother Sokka and his girlfriend Suki cooking for her.
“This is so nice of you guys,” Katara said. “Just don’t burn anything, Sokka, okay?”
“Don’t worry! We’ve got everything covered,” Sokka assured his little sister.
“And you don’t have to worry about a thing,” Suki added.
She handed Katara a glass of orange juice and pushed out a seat for her at the table. Katara sat down and Suki pushed it in.
“Am I dreaming?” Katara asked, dazed.
“Ha, ha. Very funny,” Sokka said as he flipped a pancake. “No, this is not a dream. Now that the war is over, we can relax.”
Katara smiled. This was great. Though there was one thing missing from all of this, but she couldn’t quite put a finger on it.
Then her thirteen-year-old boyfriend, Avatar Aang, walked into the room. She looked at him and blushed. She loved him and he loved her. Aang noticed her stare and walked over to her.
“Good morning, beautiful,” He said as he gave her a kiss on the cheek. He took a seat next to her. “Slept well?”
    “Yes, I did,” Katara answered.
    “Any dreams?”
    “Not that I know of.”
Next, Toph walked into the room.
“GOOD MORNING TEAM AVATAR!” She yelled. She sat on a chair at the table. “Are we preparing for a battle like in the old days?”
Toph punched the air quickly with her fists.
    “Nope, just breakfast,” Suki answered.
“Breakfast is all ready,” Sokka announced, turning away from the pancakes that were still frying. “Though Zuko isn’t here yet.”
“Zuko is coming?!” Katara grew excited. Her feeling that something was missing was suddenly erased.
“Looks like somebody’s starting to get a little crush on him!” Toph taunted.
Aang looked at Katara with an eyebrow raised. Katara flushed.
“I am not! He’s my good friend,” Katara assured them. “He’s saved my life twice and I’d be dead if it weren’t for him.”
    They all dismissed the topic.
Then as if on cue, Zuko came running into the kitchen.
“Sorry I’m late,” Zuko said as he sat on the other side of Katara. “My servants wouldn’t let me leave unless they give me a foot massage.”
“That’s nice to know before we eat,” Katara commented.
    “Sorry,” Zuko murmured.
“I’m kidding!” Katara exclaimed. She giggled as she touched his arm.
“Who’s ready to eat?!” Sokka yelled.
The whole group hooted and hollered.
“Here ya go!” Sokka put a plate in front of Aang first. There was a black, smoking circle in the middle.
“Did that come up in the sink?” Aang asked.
“No! It’s a pancake!” Sokka yelled.
Everyone went quiet. Then they all laughed hysterically.
“You trying to kill us?” Toph said.
“Seriously, what else is there?” Katara asked.
“I made waffles,” Suki answered. “It comes with Litchi Nuts.”
    “Let’s eat that!” Aang exclaimed.
Sokka looked insulted but then he lightened up and sat down with the rest of them.
