The Southern Vampire series (a.k.a The Sookie Stackhouse series).
The books are so much fun and addictive, Charlaine Harris is a terrific writer who really defines her characters and unlike the Twilight series, actually gives them a plot to work with. Also Charlaine Harris wrote her first book in the series long before Stephenie Meyer wrote her first (you can tell their is a little inspiration taken from Mrs. Harris).

As for a tv show, then you gotta watch the show based on the books above: HBO'S 'True Blood'. Alan Balls adaptation is brought to life so brilliantly with stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard (see my icon), truely make the show magic.

but the shows i find have little to do with the books! both cool though! just like vampire diaries the series and the books are different stories! also i don't like what they did with elena and stephan, its like they tries to copy twilight's bella and her guy. not cool! elena is BLOND for god's sake!

I personally liked the Twilight series, but not the movie. The Vampire Diaries is a book series coming to tv, I haven't read it, but the preview looks good. Another series isn't a vampire one particularly, but it does have them entangled in a couple books; The Women of the Otherworld series.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel.

Both are made of awesome. If you are looking for traditional vamps in books, go with Anne Rice or read the actual traditionals (Dracula, Lestat).

If you like bad writing, purple prose, and sparkly things, go with Twilight.

If you're into the whole "seductive-vampire-falls-in-love-with-human" or "all-vampires-are-good-for-is-sexy-boyfriend/girlfriend" stuff, it's EVERYWHERE!!! But if you're like me, and you liked vampires BEFORE they became cool, the "Cirque Du Freak" is an awesome series about a young boy who is blackmailed into becoming a vampire, learns the vampiric ways, and eventually fights in the War of Scars-a war between the vampires and the vampaneze (another vampire-like clan). And, of course, there's the classics: "Dracula", "Interview With A Vampire", " TheVampire Lestat", you know, the books where vampires are acting like vampires?

Thank you! I tell people the exact same thing. I became a fan of vampires before everyone totally contaminated it with the goopy, teenybopper stuff. Not that I don't understand why it wouldn't appeal to some people in the right situations, but I'm tired of it already! There's too much romanticizing. One thing: You shouldn't forget "'Salem's Lot". Talk about vampires acting like vampires.

Here are some that I've read. Some I've REALLY liked and some were just "ok". I put an *** by the ones I really love.

Vampire Books
Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer (more teen genre)
House of Night Series by the Cast’s (teen genre…I think the stories move slow, maybe it’s just me)
The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward (VERY adult…violent and sexy, but GREAT!)***
Fallen Angels Series by J.R. Ward (also VERY adult, only one book out so far)***
Novels of the Darkyn by Lynn Viehl (also very adult…she’s starting a new series called “The Kyndred”)***
The Argeneau Vampire Series by Lynsay Sands (also very sexy, but GREAT!)***
Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole (Adult series)***
Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian (also very adult)***
Wings of the Night Series by Maggie Shayne***
Love at Stake Series by Kerrelyn Sparks***
The Historian (don't remember the author)
Dracula by Bram Stoker (gotta love the original)***
Lords of the Underworld Series by Gena Showalter (not really vampire but very good and based on Ancient Greek immortal warriors...also adult)***

Sunshine is a good book, and if you are a teenage girl try Twilight. If you are not, don't go there. If you are able to handle mature content, go with True Blood (also i believe they have a series of books it's based on? If you are like 14 or younger, go with Young Dracula. But eventually i guess your best bet is Buffy The Vampire Slayer, if you like things with a sense of humor, but lots of drama, action and vampires. It's an amazing show.

My fave Vampire books to read:
*The Twilight Saga
*The Vampire Diaries
*The Vampire Academy Series
*The House of Night Series
*The Evernight Series
*Bite Me!

there were a couple vamp books that i read that i didnt like though, like "blue bloods," it was kinda weird. The only vamp book that i ever started and didnt finish was "Thirst" it was really creepy lol.

For TV shows, deff watch the vampire diaries. It's the most addictive show ive ever seen lol. It's coming back on in septemeber for season two.

Movies - deff twilight and new moon. eclipse is coming out next month, and breaking dawn will be two movies, the first released in november 2011. The books are wayyy better though!

hope this helped :)

Well, I haven't been around to reading/watching any vampire series lately, but I have a few suggestions.

First off, what's the age range? If you are into anything, then I have quite a few on my list for suggestions.

For books, I would definitely recommend the Sookie Stackhouse series. It's really fun, and it's got an interesting perspective on vampires, which gives it a new take, I think.

If you enjoy young adult books, I would try Blue Bloods. It's probably my favorite vampire book series because of its portrayal of vampires. It's a totally different scenario, but it has some excellent plots and it's pretty intense, in my opinion.

Any ultimate vampire fan must read Anne Rice novels. Any of them are wonderful, so those would be interesting to go out and try.

For TV shows, I am a fan of True Blood, given my new view after reading the books. If you're a fan of the books or not, it's still a wonderful TV show. And is also very interesting.

Buffy and Angel are classics! Fun to watch, definitely recommended, but I don't have a huge evaluation.

Finally, Moonlight is a great series. I just watched a few episodes of it today, and found it completely fascinating. It's easy to get hooked, and I think it follws with the "classic" vampires, but with a new twist.

Last spring I started writing this book for my 24 years old niece. She had gotten into a certain vampyre book series {I think we all know which one I'm talking about} and loved it but thought that it was missing something. I read the books and I had to agree with her. When I turned to the front cover of the book I discovered why.
The books had been written for the Young Adult audience. I told her that I would write her a book series about vampyres that would better suit the grown up reader {I don't think she believed that I would actually do it!}. A book series that wouldn't castrate the sex, humor, violence, murder and family conflicts from the story. So I give you The Undead Heart, Tennessee's own vampyre story.
It follows Beck Stockdale through her childhood where she first sees the man that will {much later, of course} become her lover, and into her adulthood, where she finds out what she will have to go through to keep him and her new family safe from a psychopathic vampyre and his clan. She had a plan but would it be enough to save them?
What she hadn't planned on was the help they would get from a band of immortal vampyre
hunters. A group of men who had, long ago, vowed to kill all vampyres. A group of men who put their vow aside to fight for what they believe in. For the family that they had grown to love. {Parental Discretion is advised.}

I don't know if you know everything i'm going to tell you but here we go :

*True Blood (books and tv shows) :
It's about the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small Louisiana town. The series centers on Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a bar, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).

*The Vampire Diaries (books and tv show) :
The series follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who falls in love with vampire Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), and soon finds herself caught in a love triangle between Stefan and his older brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The series also focuses on the lives of Elena's friends and other inhabitants of the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

*Moonlight (tv show) :
The series follows private investigator Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), who was turned into a vampire by his bride Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon) on the couple's wedding night fifty-five years earlier. In the present day, he struggles with his attraction to a mortal woman, Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), his friendship with Josef Kostan (Jason Dohring), and his dealings with other vampires in Los Angeles.

*Twilight Saga (movies and books) :
Bella Swan moves from Phoenix, Arizona to live with her father in Forks, Washington to allow her mother to travel with her new husband, a minor league baseball player. After moving to Forks, Bella finds herself involuntarily drawn to a mysterious, handsome boy, Edward Cullen. She eventually learns that he is a member of a vampire family who drinks animal blood rather than human. Edward and Bella fall in love, but James, a sadistic vampire from another vampire coven, is drawn to hunt down Bella. Edward and the other Cullens defend Bella. She escapes to Phoenix, Arizona, where she is tricked into confronting James, who tries to kill her. She is seriously wounded, but Edward rescues her and they return to Forks, having killed James.

*Buffy the vampire slayer (tv show) :
The series narrative follows Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), the latest in a line of young women known as Slayers. In the story, Slayers are chosen by fate to battle against vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. Like previous Slayers, Buffy is aided by a Watcher, who guides, teaches, and trains her. Unlike her predecessors, Buffy surrounds herself with a circle of loyal friends who become known as the "Scooby Gang".
There is 'Angel' (tv show) who is a crossover of Buffy :)

Twilight is ok that would be under book and movie, the Vampire Diaries is really good that would be tv and book, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favorite tv show ever it's extremely good but it has a bunch of different things in it but there is a lot of vampires in it it's just not all vampires and that would be well there's a movie from 1992 but it isn't that good and then there's the tv show which is 1997-2003 and that is amazing and really really good and then there's also comic books if your interested in comics!

Very simple...You have to try the new series out called the BLOODBREEDERS! It is nothing like you have ever read before...this is one series where the main female character has to save her self...no dark knight coming in to save the "Night" and yes, they fry in the sun and do not go to school. ; )Reviewers have said...it is not for the faint of heart. : ) You can find it on Amazon on e-book and print. Not one person out there will say these books are like the norm, by any means of the word..LOL

I would HIGHLY recommend The Hollows series by Kim Harrison. It's about a witch, Rachel Morgan who lives and works in an old Church with her two partners. Ivy a 'living' vampire and a pixie name Jenks. Great vampires, great world building. Plus lots of other species, were's banshee's trolls, elves, demons. It starts with Dead Witch Walking. It is NOT a paranormal romance series. It does have romance, but does not focus on that romance. It's action, it's horror, it's comedy all rolled into one. It's not YA. It is adult. So make sure you take note of that. Nothing too graphic, but there are love scenes.

As a serial, I would like to suggest " The Vampire Diaries". It's perfect because it shows killings, newborn activities and blood lust.
And as a movie, i would love to see " twilight" or " abraham lincoln - the vampire hunter." But if you are not romantic you wont like " twilight ". Vampire diaries and Twilight both are novels. so you can read them too.

Moonlight - ingenious, indeed... Interview with the Vampire - I am looking for the movie on DVD myself as it is not on youtube yet. Twilight - well, I liked it but not necessarily the last part of it, only the previous parts of the saga. I can also recommend this movie: Dark Prince: True Story of Dracula - which is not really about vampires but about the real Vlad the Impaler; it is a historical movie with dark/morbid scenes in which truth is slightly distorted because it is a historical fiction story. I really really loved this movie (I watched it in Spanish on youtube; look for: Vlad - el príncipe de las tinieblas). That would be all, I think. ;-)
