Uncle Scrooge McDuck Question

Why is Don Rosa so popular?

Am I the only Uncle Scrooge fan who doesn't like Rosa? I've always been a huge Uncle Scrooge fan. And, I can always find something that i like, about almost every version of him, expect Rosa's. While, DuckTales Scrooge is my favorite, because it's what I grew up with, I also love Carl Barks' Scrooge. With Barks' Scrooge, even though he is a little rougher and grumpier than I like, I can tell that under that tough shell he cares deeply for his family. With Rosa's version I don't get that impression. Also Rosa's stories seem sad and depressing, Barks' are much more uplifting.

Does anyone agree with me? If not, please tell me what you find so wonderful about him?

I'm not trying to offend anyone, I'm just curious.

You may be the only one, or one of the very few ones. Personally, I love everything Scrooge McDuck: Don Rosa, Carl Barks, DuckTales, 50's non-Barks Americans, Italians, Norwegians, French, ALL. I agree that Scrooge's modern-day characterization is a weak point in Don Rosa stories, and that he is more a jerk than he should be if we were to make him a hero, but I personally see him as an anti-hero in his Don Rosa characterization. And anyway, many people think that it's not because the main character's weak that the story as a whole is weak. What makes Don Rosa so popular is the humor of his stories, and (mostly) his DRAWINGS. His art style with all those comical details in the backgrounds is very pleasant to look at for most people. A third reason could be his "consistency mania" with all those Barks references: he relies on the fan, geek-spirit, and it works.

In the end, I agree that he usually misses the point with his Scrooge, but his stories have enough qualities unrelated to Scrooge himself to make them stand out all the same in the eyes of many.

Thanks for answering my question. It seems like whenever I state my opinion about Rosa or ask why someone likes him, his fans always get angry at me, even though I'm not trying to start a fight.

Yeah, I know I got carried away there. lol. But I hacks me off when people treat it like a fact that Scrooge and Goldie had sex, just because they believe it happened.
