I would say that at least James, Jane and Caius would qualify as villians also.

The Volturi, Newborn Army and Riley, James. I don't know if Bree should count, but I believe Riley should.

A villain is a person who does evil deliberately.

James couldn't help the fact that he was a tracker. He found Bella appealing, so he had to go after her.

I don't think the Volture was evil at all. They were the government and were keeping order in the vamipre world. perhaps Aro had some evil tendencies, but nothing actually demonstrated in the story.

I don't think the newborns or Riley were evil either. They were told what they had to do, not really knowing the reason why, or that it wasn't okay.

Jane was evil because she enjoyed the pain that she caused others. Cauis was evil because he lost the true meaning of the Volturi.and .he wanted absolute power and did not care how he got it..Aro was semi evil because nothing really mattered to him but his 'living" collection and he was going to condemn the entire Cullen family to get what he wanted. Jessica was evil in a every day human way...she only wanted to be friends with Bella when she thought she had a use for her.

Yeah, sorry, Aro "collects" people and he would have killed most of the Cullen just to get Edward, Alice, and Bella. Don't know what else says evil.

This is what is so interesting about the Twilight world, each character, you can see where they come from. And being honest, I don't think any of the characters are "evil" except maybe Jane.

Each vampire has a quality that is almost human. For example, take the ones you mentioned, Victoria and Laurent. Victoria, even though she is twisted in a way, she is that way because she is avenging James. Her love was taken away from her. And as a human, you can relate to that.

Laurent, he's more classy. Remember when Victoria asked him to find Bella in New Moon? He didn't necessarily want to leave the Denali clan to find her, but he owed Victoria.

Take other vampires: Riley, Aro, and James.

Riley did those things, not necessarily because he was evil, but because he was manipulated into doing them.

Aro feels like he should take responsibility over younger vampires. He's self appointed himself to rule or to intervene.

James is like a playful animal. He likes to play games and isn't evil. It's just what he knows. Instinctual behavior. It doesn't excuse his want to kill Bella, but you can see from his point of view.

All of these characters have humanistic qualities that mostly everyone can relate to. And that's one of the most intriguing things about Stephenie Meyer's vampires, and unbeknownst to people, I think that's one of the reasons why everyone is so drawn to the Twilight Series.

Victoria avenging James' death is still intentional. There was nothing forcing her to do it besides her own personal decisions.

Laurent going to find Bella was also intentional, even if he didn't necissarily want to leave. He was fully aware of what he was doing and could have declined. Him deciding he wanted to eat Bella was also intentional.

Aro collected people? Didn't he just ask them to join the Volturi?

Yes hes "asks" them but not before laying some ground work...he would either have Chelsea loosen the ties that bind vampires to one another or he would destroy those he felt were unimportant to him...so by the time he "asks" whoever he was trying to collect...chances are that vampire wouldnt say no...all this is made very clear at the end of Breaking Dawn...

Cassie-1-2-3, were you responding to me? If you were, I don't see what your point was. I know their actions were intentional, but that doesn't make them villains. From our objective point of views, yes, it is wrong. But to be in their shoes, their judgment is skewed. And that makes you relate to them. You know it's wrong, but you understand it.

By that logic, no books have villains because you know why they do evil
