Twilight Series Really random question...

So I as re-reading "Breaking Dawn" when I realized something. I remember that in "New Moon" when Bella saw the Volturi, she mentioned something about their skin being different. And when I was reading "Breaking Dawn" I was confused, because it's mentioned again. Does anyone know the difference between the skin of the Volturi and the other vampires? Bella even says that Aro's skin looked like it was ready to crease. I would try and find the quote and page number in the book, but that would take me FOREVER, so I HOPE someone knows what I'm talking about.

I would guess their skin is different because they are thousands of years old, like the romanian coven who said that they began to petrify because they remained unmoving for thousands of years. I would assume that something similar would happen just for existing so long
