It was after I heard her scream that I started running. There wasn't a part of my body that didn't sting and burn. I saw her laying on the ground, Seth kneeling over her.
"What happened?!" I yelled. I scooped her up in my arms as she screamed in pain. The blood was dripping off her heel and onto my shoe.
"Paul got mad, really mad. We told her to back away but he phased sooner than we thought he would. He caught her leg." Seth took off his shirt and started to dab at her wounds.
"I got to get her to the Cullen's." I told him.
"Let me have her untill you phase." He reached out her arms where I placed her carefully untill I could take over.
I kissed her head and headed quickly into the woods. How stupid can you get?! You left her alone with Paul! He could have killed her!. I thought over and over. How could I have let this happen? This was all my fault.
I ran back over to them where Seth placed Renesmee on my back. "Hang on tight." He told her. I felt her nod against my neck and I took off.
I let out a small wine. I'm so sorry. I felt her tears hit my skin as if there had been so many my fur had finally given in and let them through. I shook my head at myself.
I saw the river that would take me straight to the back door of the Cullen's. In about three miles Edward would be able to hear my thoughts and Alice (unable to see ahead of us) would be able to see her through the others.
Once I reached the edge of the yard I sat Renesmee up against a tree. I pulled my shorts out of the leather string and dropped them on the ground, careful not to slobber on them.
I scooped her back up in my arms and headed of the door.
"What happened to her?!" Bella was the first one out. She ran over to me and I handed Renesmee over to her.
"Paul changed infront of her. He was pissed. I don't know what at, but when he did he got her leg." I was on Bella's heels making sure I had an eye on Ness at all times.
"Where is he now?" Edward growled. I knew. I knew exactly where he was. I heard Sam talking to him when I phased. He was at my house talking to Dad.
"He ran off right after he saw what he had done. So who knows." I ran my hands through my hair. I knew Edward was in my head. I just didn't want the other bloodsuckers knowing.
Bella sat Renesmee down on the white couch and I went to stand behind her. "It's going to heal quickly." Alice came prancing down the stairs. "There isn't even going to be a scar, so that means not stiches." She turned to look at Doc.
He wiped off the dried blood and looked at her leg and nodded in agreement. "The laserations aren't deep. Alice is right, it will heal quickly without the need of stiches." He was gone and back with a wrap for Ness's leg. "But you're going to have to stay in bed for a couple days or all the blood will flow down to your leg and it could cause minor blood loss." He placed the clips on her wrap and Renesmee winced slightly.
She grabbed my hand and looked up at me. "I'm so sorry. I should have listened to you."
I shook my head."Don't apologize. I shouldn't have left you alone with him."
Th next thing I knew Edward was at my side his ice cold grip nearly crushing my arm. "You left her alone with him?! He hissed.
"Dude, you're crushing my arm." I pulled away quickly and rolled my shoulder. "And I'm sorry for having to pee at such a bad time but sometimes you just have to."
"You could have used a tree." Barbie snarled.
I growled and it put Renesmee over the edge.
She dropped her hand and her face went grim. "Okay, enough." She yelled. "Can you guys not fight for one day?! All you two have ever done is fight!" She looked at me pleadingly. "Enough with the blonde jokes," and then looked over to Rosalie "and you enough with the Fido jokes. We all know you don't want to be in the situation you are now, and we know you two just want to be normal but that isn't going to happen!" I heard every breath takin in and out from that room. Edward placed his hand on her shoulder calmingly "I'm sorry, but you both just need to move on."
She was right. I much as I tried and wanted to I couln't run away from this. I was going to be this thing I was for the rest of my life. I walked over and sat beside her, putting my head in my hands. "I'm sorry."
"Me too." Rosalie agreed.
It was quite for a moment untill Ness spoke and broke the easy silence. "Jake? Will you take me to my room."
I stood up and took her in my arms. I walked through the trees careful that not one branch touch her. I reached Bella and Edward's "litle" cottage. I walked down the hall and planed what I would do next. Just lay her down and walk out.It's best not to be around her right now.
I layed her down in her bed and turned on my heels. Just keep walking. I reminded myself. "Stay." Renesmee said. I was quick, almost like she had to get it out before it was to late. "Please? I want you to lay with me." She pleaded.
I turned to look at her. I felt like crying. Like a three year old, I felt like crying. "I shouldn' have left you alone. If I would have stayed for just two minutes you wouldn't be lying there, in pain, because of me." I walked over to her despite my earlier "pep" talk. "It's my fault. Why do you stil want me around right now?"
She kissed me slowly and softly. The kind of kiss she knew would calm me. "Because it wasn't your fault. You didn't know it was going to happen and neither did I." I looked down but she pulled my chin upward so I would look at her in her eyes.
She had beautiful eyes. They were big and innocent. They always had been. They were chocolate brown. She same color that Bella's had been. But the eyes looked differnt set into Renesmee's face. Her large,copper, ringlet curls that shaped her face seemed to balance her personality perfectly.
"I don't blame you, Jacob." She sighed.
"Edward does." I sighed.
He lifted her hand and hit her bed frustrated. "Dad can get over it! He drives me crazy!" She rolled over to stare at her celing. The setting sun was casting the last of it's light on her celing and down her pale yellow walls. She turned to look at me. "I'm going to marry you Jacob Black." She said matter-of-factly. "And Dad is going to have to get over it."
I smiled and crawled in next to her. "You really want to marry me?" I asked andI took her hand and twined my fingers with hers.
"Of course. I already have our kid's names picked out." She smiled and looked back at me.
I laughed and kissed her. She layed her head on my chest and her breathing slowly became slow and steady. As she slept I thought about the words she had just said.
"I'm going to marry you Jacob Black"
Her voice echoed in my head and the more she said it, the more I was looking foward to it. I smiled and kissed her head before I too fell asleep.
