I slammed on the brakes, and winced as I heard the numerous heads slamming into the backs of the chairs. "Crap!" I yelled, and threw the car into reverse. Nate and Thackery's voices were shouting urgently through my head, telling me to drive in the opposite direction as fast as I can.
But I didnt make sense of it. As the car reversed, I could not take my eyes of Mina. Her elderly looking face, looking so ferosiuos and beautiful, was hypnotising me.
"BELLA!" Someone yelled from behind me. I snapped out of my daze to see Sarah Sanderson flinging herself on top of the car with a grace that could put the Cullen's to shame.
In a blinding fast movement, the sunroof was renched open, and Sarah's hand reached down to grasp a handful of my hair. I screamed in pain and surprise, as I was dragged through the roof with the Cullen's frantically trying to pull me back in.
But Sarah was too strong.
With a certain grace, she flung me to the gravel road so hard I could feel every grain of the gravel cut me, and cry out in pain. Before I could move, Mina was above me. Her foot pressed firmly against my throat, making it impossible to breathe.
"Mina!" Thackery shouted through what seemed to be dead silence, except for my gasping for air. "Don't do this!" He pleaded, sounding close to tears. "Please, she hasnt done anything to you, she wasnt even around when this DID happen to you! Please, Mina, just please..."
She lloked up at him, finally tearing her eyes away from mine, and smiled. "Silly Rabbit," she said her eyes sparkling impishly. "Trixs are for kids. I know she wasnt around when this happened, and I know it has nothing to do with her...but hurting her, hurts you. And right now, that exactly what I want to do." As she said the last part of her statement her foot pressed harder against my jugular.
I struggled furiously, but that made the breathe come quicker.
"Stop this!" Someone shouted, but my hearing was suddenly muted, like someone was calling me while I was under water. I turned to see who was talking and realised my vision had taken on a tunnel-like view, it was greying around the edges.
"Ok, how about a deal..." Mina started, looking up from my eyes. "We'll let her go this time...If and only IF, you take this stupid curse off us. Then we'll leave and never come back, and your prim, perfect, bonny lass will be left in the almost perfect position she was in before we got here. Otherwise, I take this little knife here," She pulled out the immortal blade and said "And end her pain. What do you say?"
Whoever was speaking, hesitated, obviously thinking about what the best possible choice was. Her foot pressed a tiny bit harder and I gasped almost silently, reminding them that there was only so much breath left.
"Okay Mina..." Thackery said, his voice dripping with defeat and sadness. "You win, after you set Bella free and we can cast a circle and lift the curse. Now let. Her. Go." He said every word distincty, making it ring with finality.
There was a moment of complete silence as they sized each other up. When suddenly her foot disappeared from my throat. I coughed and gasped for air, and started crawling away from her.
A pair of hands gripped the tops of my arms and helped me to my feet. And a voice whispered in my ear.
"Don't let Thackery fool you. He's not the nice guy you all think he is...Trust me, I should know." I turned, still coughing and gasping to look Mina in her pretty, youthful eyes. They were filled with a sorrow so intense, it reminded me of Edward when he first came back from Italy.
Someone hissed and a pair of cold arms replaced Mina's and I was swung away quicky towards the car. I looked up and saw Edwards concerned face looking at me. I tried to smile at him, but only managed a weak grimace.
"I'm so happy your fine Bella," Thackerys voice said from behind me. I turned and looked at him, and saw that there was a guarded and angry look in his eyes as they made contact with me.
I turned away, suddenly feeling very light headed. I turned my attention back to Edward and leaned into him more.
"I forgot to tell you something when you got back and its been bugging me all night..." I muttered sleepily.
"What is it sweetie?" He whispered pulling me up into his arms, so he was carrying me.
I nestled my head into his shoulder, and breathed in his delicious scent, trying to push away the memories of what Mina said and the look Thackery gave me.
"Bella?" he asked his voice curious, yet a little happy. I realised then that I had wrapped my arms around him tightly, holding myself closer to him, and was smiling.
"I missed you..." I murmured sleepily, before finally losing conciousness.
