Chapter Eleven

I could smell the sour scent of alcohol on her breath. It was very strong, she was very, very, very stoned.
“Embry…” she sobbed loudly, her arms clamped around me, as if I might disappear if she let go.
“Shhhh Mom.” I soothed, as always I had to be the adult.
“I-don’t-want-you-hanging-around-Jacob-Black.” Her words slurred together, as her eyelids drooped. “Do-you-know-what-Billy-Black-said-to-me-today? He-said-he-wouldn’t-give-us-a-go.” She mumbled. “All-those-years-ago-he-used-me. He-only-wanted-me-for-my-looks-I’ll-bet-you.” She slurred sourly.
“He not worth all this Mom.” I said mechanically, even though I knew it was probably her problem with alcohol, her mood swings and what the town would think. I lifted her easily. She was so thin; I could feel her ribs jutting out which worried me even more, as I carried her up the stairs.
I laid her on her bed, and began taking her shoes off her feet.
“Embry…” her voice was quiet. “I-do-love-you. You-were-the-best-thing-my-life-has-ever-given-me. My-greatest-achievement…” then she was snoring quietly.
Tears pricked my eyes, even though the more I thought about what she’d said the more disgusting images my mind conjured up. I’d always doubted my Moms love for me, but maybe she did really love me. I tucked her carefully under the covers, before going downstairs and into the kitchen to make some dinner.
There wasn’t much in the fridge, in the end I decided to boil the uncooked pasta that was left from a few days ago when mom had attempted to make pasta bake and a strange sauce concoction from the remaining vegetables.
The pasta was boiling steadily in a pan on the hob, and I was just chopping some tomatoes, when Jake poked his head around the kitchen door.
When I opened my mouth to ask why he was there he raised his hand. I snapped my mouth shut again.
“Your front door was wide open and…” He grinned “That does smell pretty good!” He nodded to the sauce that was simmering next to the pasta.
“Mom will kill you if she finds you here, but she’s stoned so I guess its ok.” I threw him a red pepper “Get to work then.” I added. He grunted, and hacked unskilfully at the pepper with the knife I’d left on the table top.
“Did you mom…” He began with out looking up.
“She told me your dad rejected her.” I snorted. “Don’t blame him.” Jake laughed a little, before silently hacking at the pepper again. I finished my pile of tomatoes and added them to the sauce, then carefully measured out the spices that no one ever used in our house.
“Bella told me she asked you to go find me.” Jake said unemotionally. I shrugged. “Thank you for that Embry. I know you don’t like Vamps.” I shrugged again.
“She’s still Bella.” I said sourly, I couldn’t disguise the fact that she wasn’t Bella, she was my natural enemy and that I wouldn’t have done anything for her if it wasn’t about one of my brothers. “It’ll be nice to have you hanging out at La Push instead of at the Cullen’s while they’re away. You’re starting to stink!” I wrinkled my nose.
Jake sighed. “I wish it wasn’t going to be like that.” His head drooped. “I wish I was going to secretly follow them. Not let Nessie out of my sight.”
“You’re fine with it?” I said slowly. I’d heard that once you’d imprinted you couldn’t bear to leave your imprintee. But I didn’t know about that sort of stuff obviously…
“Yep… I mean I’m not, I want to be there to protect her, but I believe that Edward and Bella will protect her almost as well as I would.” He sighed again. “It’s like each day that passes I feel less and less need to be at the Cullen’s.” He shrugged “Maybe I didn’t imprint.”
“But you love Nessie right?” I tried to sound as anxious as I could, and not to show the joy, that one of my best friends might be joining the evening practice sessions.
“Of course!” He sounded disgusted, that I would even think that he might not love her anymore “I just love her as a sister.” He tipped the chopped pepper into the pan, and I added the spices and herbs before stirring the mixture. It smelt good!
The vegetables cooked quickly, we’d both chopped them very small, and I served them in the two remaining plates that my Mom owned (she’d smashed up the rest) and threw one in Jakes direction.
We sat down at the kitchen table and ate in silence. It felt odd being with my best friend again, I hadn’t properly spoken to him for so long, I had nothing to say to him.
Jake was the one to break the silence. ”Embry.” He paused “Embry, all the pack are agreed.” He paused again, his voice was pained. “We spoke to Jared. You must break up with Samantha Kirk, and stay away from her.” I blinked, at him, my head was empty.
He stared back at me for awhile, steadily meeting my gaze. I’d forgotten how to breathe, I gulped air in threw my mouth like a fish, my mind was still blank.
I managed to squeak -higher than normal- “You want me to what?”
Jake looked back at me, his thick eyebrows casting a shadow over his eyes as the lowered into a frown. “Please Embry, you know I don’t want to order you to do this but Samantha Kirk is bad news, and Jared has a good reason for you to want to stay away from her…” he trailed off, as he realised his reasoning was doing no good. My mouth fizzed with acidic anger, which I could feel spreading down my spine, to each of my limbs. My brain finally thawed out, now I could think clearly which wasn’t a good thing for Jake.
Raw anger bubbled threw my veins, but I pushed it back, being mad at Jake wouldn’t help anything, I convinced myself. “Look Jake, I know we always thought of Sam as ‘bad news but a lot of things have changed since then …” no.1 becoming a giant wolf, I mentally added. “… but know that I’ve got to know her, I realised that, she’s only like that, because of all the bad things that have happened to her over the years, and maybe if I have enough time she can be healed…” I realised I sounded like an elder of the tribe talking about some ancient ritual, and so clamped my mouth shut mid-sentence.
Jake’s eyes searched my face, as if looking for a reason why I would not listen to his demand. “Oh c’mon Embry! You’ve known Samantha for a day… Sam has been just waiting for something like this, something to blame us for; he doesn’t like our relationship with the Cullen’s and you know that!”
My self-control cracked slightly, the anger seeping out into my voice “Don’t you mean your relationship with the Cullen’s. The rest of us never visit them, without you, so don’t drag the packs name threw the mud.”
Jakes chest heaved, as he sucked in air, his hands shaking slightly, he stood up, holding the table top as if for support. I too stood up. It was then I noticed it. I was only a little shorter than Jake, as if now I’d discovered the alpha blood, my body was preparing me for my duties.
“Don’t do this Embry. Your one of my best friends.” Jake growled.
I narrowed my eyes, and puffed out my chest. “Then don’t make me choose between my best friends.” I growled back.

*Jacob's POV*
Climbing off my bike,I went to open the Cullens' front door, but Edward opened it just as I was about to push it open. He gave me nod and allowed me in.
"Daddy!!!" I smiled happily as Granite hopped into my arms. It's been a week since she was born, and she was already five years old. She's adapting faster than Ness had because she still had werewolf blood in her.
"Hey princess! Where's your mother?" She pointed to the living room where Ness was sitting with Bella and Blondie on the couch. Alice came in a few minutes later with a cup of-I have no clue.
"She's developing faster...

Don't worry people; chapter four is in the works.
And again, WARNING: coarse language.

EMBRY CHAPTER THREE: EXPLANATIONS

She exhaled deeply, a heavy sigh. “God, I have a feeling I’m going to regret telling you this,” she whispered, a hint of pink spilling across her caramel-colored cheeks.
“How could you think that?” I wondered.
“Because I’m a freak, that’s why. People always run from people like me, because of the damn stereotypes and it pisses me off.” She sighed. “I guess I can’t put it off any longer,” she said, taking a deep breath before continuing. “There are...

Okay thinking of writing a new story heres a little bit.

The winding, overgrown path lies before me. I'd always been good with horror movies but this was too much. Stupid car breaking down in a place like this. Why did this house have to be the first one I came to. My first step triggered something. As my foot landed on the hard gravel with a soft thud, it all started. Suddenly the wind picked up and turned into a blowing gale, throwint the leaves into a swirl around me. My vision became blurred making the mossy ground before me disappear. The trees, hung low at an akward angle as if held there...
