As soon as Aro heard my words, he sprung. But he didn’t land on my back; he was far too cunning for that. No, he landed on Jane’s back, his teeth just millimetres from her throat. “What if I killed Jane” he hissed ‘Would you join us seconds before the final blow was delivered?””
Jane shot me a frightened, pleading look. It killed me to see her like this, but it killed me more to say the word
“No”
Aro laughed. “Oh, you know me too well. I’d never kill Jane. No, I have far better plans than that” He laughed again “Jane, you know what to do” Aro turned back to me “Let me assure you Edward: this will not be the end. No, I have far better plans for you” He turned to Jane again “Jane, do not forget that my teeth are at your throat”
Jane shot me a sorrowful look, then took a deep breath, and smiled.
For a moment I was memorized by her beauty, but then the pain hit.
“NO!” I let out a cry of agony, then collapsed on the floor. It felt like I was becoming a vampire, but the pain was ten times worse, I screamed again, and looked at Carlisle, begging him to make the pain stop. His tortured face only made my pain worse. I was grabbing the stone underneath me as if that would make the pain stop, but all I succeeded in doing was messing up their floor. The pain subsided then, only to be replaced by a shriek from Jane. I looked up, and saw Aro’s teeth in her throat. I got up, and sprang across the room, letting out a snarl as I crashed into Aro, forcing him to remove his teeth from Jane’s throat. I grabbed him by the throat and slammed him against the wall, choking him as I was blinded by rage. I smashed his head against the wall, again and again. I would make him feel sorry for what he just did. Just then, two members of the guard pulled me off him and threw me across the room. I landed near Carlisle, and looked up to see that he was maintaining a carefully blank expression. This really must be affecting him I thought, then saw Aro leap again.
“What if I killed Carlisle? Would you join us to save him?” he hissed, teeth close up to Carlisle throat, deliberating over whether to kill him. I tensed, ready to leap at him again, but members of the guard held me back
‘What about…” I couldn’t believe I was going to say this but… “What about if I made three vampires. Visit us in a year and they’ll be trained to fight. Just let me and Carlisle go, without doing anything to Jane”
Aro hopped off Carlisle’s back. Carlisle looked at me in disbelief and shock.
“Hmm...” Aro mused ‘Three trained vampires in exchange for two...”
I waited silently for what seemed like hours.
“Fine then” Aro said abruptly “Go. But don’t expect us to forget. 1 year. Bring them here.”
I walked over to Jane ‘Goodbye Jane” I said, my voice emotionless.
I walked out of the room following Carlisle. It was only when we got back to our house that I realised the magnitude of what we had to do.
