Chapter 3
“Edward! Stop it!” Carlisle’s commanding voice snapped Edward out of his trance. Jacob wasted no time, he rushed to Bella’s side “Carlisle, she’s not moving, why isn’t she moving?” Jacob’s voice was breaking, fear was invading his body. What would he do without Bella? Edward was standing frozen on the spot, realising what he’d done. What made it even worse was that he wasn’t worrying about whether Bella was okay or not. He was more concerned about the little cut Bella had gotten where she had landed. It wasn’t a big cut; even Jacob had not noticed it yet. But Carlisle did, he saw a change in Edward’s eyes, posture…everything.
“Emmett, Jasper, take Edward to the other room. Bella has a little cut and Edward is not exactly himself right now. Sensing the urgency of the situation, Emmett and Jasper complied with little struggle from Edward who was too stunned because he had felt what he hadn’t felt in a long time. He had always craved Bella’s blood but never this strong, it was nerve wrecking. He wanted to suck her dry. It was as if he was a new born again. Carlisle went over to Bella and tried to pick her up to take her into his office, this attempt earned him a growl from Jacob who was protectively looming over her. “I won’t hurt her Jacob. I need to assess whether she’s seriously hurt or not” Jacob let what he considered a demon touch because he had no other choice. “Fine! But if you hurt her, I’ll rip your head off” he said his voice dripping venom. “Very well Jacob, now please leave” “No! I will not leave her!” “Jacob! Your presence might upset her if she wakes up while you are here. It might make her worse”. Jacob looked unconvinced but hesitantly agreed “okay but I will be back later”.
After examining Bella for any injuries, he was relieved to find she had none. She was unconscious because of shock so he decided to let her sleep. When he stepped out of his office every one of the Cullens was waiting for him. Everyone except Edward. “How is she?” Alice was the first to pipe up, Carlisle assured everyone that she was alright then he enquired about Edward. “He’s still cooling off” Emmet answered. “What happened to him? He’s always the one who is most in control” Jasper asked. Carlisle sighed, he had always dreaded this day.
“He’s craving her.” Carlisle said. “You don’t say!” Emmett said earning him a glare from everyone in the room. “You see, human blood is like an addiction for us Vampires. Even if we quit drinking it, it remains in our system; sometimes vampires have triggers that will cause them to have an even more intense craving for blood. The craving will be even stronger than that of a new born and for Edward; his trigger seems to be his intense love for Bella.” Everyone in the room was stunned as Carlisle continued “Long story short, Edward wants to have Bella in every way, blood included. It is beyond his control. His body needs her essence, which is her blood, inside him.”
There was a deafening silence in the room. Everyone knew what this meant. It meant Edward would try to look for human blood somewhere else to try and quench his now uncontrollable thirst for Bella.
