If you are into more classical and traditional vampire novels try Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles or the ultimate classic, Bram Stroker's Dracula.

A great vampire book is two:
-The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, Eighth Grade Bites by Heather Brewer
-Cirque Du Freak, a living nightmare by Darren Shan
They are great series of books. If you LOVE vampires, you will love Vlad Tod. If you LOVE creepy mysteries and spiders and all that traditional vampire stuff, read Cirque Du Freak.

My friends have read Boys That Bite and they say it is really good. It isn't a series though. I would of told you more but like I said I haven't read it. Whan My best friend read it she read it in like two and a half hours but she is a fast reader.

This isn't really a vampire series but they are mentioned and they play an important role on this series.
"The mortal Instruments" Problably you've heard of that, if not, go check it out! It has the fiction, the horror and it's sexy too :)
Besides, it's recommended by Stephenie, so that has to count =D

You should read The Boys that Bite series.

it's not actually a vampire book, but if you loved twilight, you will love this. it's called Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.

VAMPIRE ACADEMY by richelle Mead is really good and the NIGHT WORLD BOOKS BY L.J SMITH and THE HOUSE OF NIGHT SERIES BY P.C AND KRISTEN CAST are ok.

Crimson Moon series and Lies in the blood series both by RKP Hunt

Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris (This is the series that they based True Blood on)

Love at Stake series by Kerrelyn Sparks

There is also a series by Shannon Drake but I dont know what the series is called, the first book is called Beneath the Blood Red Moon.
