Ok, sorry to say this but that's ridiculous!!! for sperm to be produced a man's body MUST be alive! men even when older are ALIVE!! as was Chaplin or even Rod Stuart;) when you die the sperm remains alive for 72 h after that it dies and no new sperm is produced since Ewdard has been alive for over a 100 years it is not possible for him to have new sperm but it SM world everything is perfect hehe
as bella said in breaking dawn, its the womens body that changes the most. man can still produce children at elderly ages. like charlie chaplin who had his youngest child at 73. so i also think that it is only the womens body that changes the most and cant produce children anymore when they become a vampire.

no it doesn't mean his sperm is dead and plus he isn't techniqually dead he was dyin wen he was changed into a vampire by carlise but he didn't techniqually die
just how it wus possible for him 2 not suck bella's blood.plus renesme is half vampire so theyre basically tha same.an he's been able 2 live around humans as well so yea.hes been alive 4 over 100 years aswll

i think she meant how was it possible because she thought that vampires cant produce children. not his self control.
As mentioned in the book, it's possible for a male vampire to impregnate a human woman because men can have kids even when they're old, while a woman's body needs to be able to change to bear children.
This isn't really a new idea, by the way. There have been other stories with half-vampire half-human children, and they're often made the same way: human mother, vampire dad.

Yeah, I honestly don't think anyone understands where you're getting at. Everyone loves Edward soooooo much that they want everything he does to make sense. You're right, I don't care how much a woman's body changes. The fact is, the man is FREAKIN' DEAD!!! No new sperm. What part of this is so hard to understand?
Thank you twilight_fan_8. In case you guys haven't noticed yet, Twilight IS a fantasy with FANTASY CREATURES in it (who actually aren't merely walking corpses, more like a different species). Dead corpses don't bleed, do they? Explain away if it's that important to you, but it doesn't change the fact that anything with vampires in it isn't going to completely follow science.
i understand it's a fantasy book but SM ould have given a better reason why Edward could have a child, being only older doesn't do it for me:) i mean some prophecy, magial potion or meteor radiation ;) would make more sense
now wait a secnd...ill try to answer ths ,though the qs iz diffcult and hz been answered a lot of times before in differnt wayz.Ok ths is a fantasy bt in ordr to considr the 'sperm production' situation ill give the scientific explanation for it.see wen human's are turnd into vampires tat changes there body nt jst frm outside bt deep down to their genetical core cauz it iiz mentioned in breakng dawn tat vampires have 25 pais of chromosomes.Since they have mentioned tat so tat definetly means they do have cells in their body BUT! these cells are dead ,like they are,(similar to the cambium tissues dead cells in plants tat gives plant strength and support) but there are 25 pairs of chromosomes in their in the nucleos of all of their body cells.The genetic material(DNA) is there jst like in viruses they need the suitable machinary to come back to life(i mean their DNA).The same z the situation with their sperms,i think their body will produce them bt they would be dead and i say that their bodies can produce sperms cauz they do have testies and testies only need the command of testosterone(male sex hormone) to produce sperms only andropauz cn stop the production in man and IT IZ NOT similar to manopauz in women cauz the change of women into vampires cauzes them to manopaz which makes them incapable of producin any more eggs at all whereas the men andropauz is the gradual loss of sexual desier which eventually stops the production of sperms BUT with arousal of the desire they can produce sperms,though dead ones but they are still cells which contain DNA like virus and when they combine with human egg they produce zygote...i m sorry this turned into a speech bt i hope tat answers ur qs:)

forst of all thank you for this explanation but sorry to say this, i still think this is one stupid idea, 25 pairs of chromosomes? OMG!!! if SM wanted people to better buy her idea she shold have explained it better
In my opinion,tis not possible for Edward to have live sperm even if it is fiction. It's said-the venom kills/burns all live cell in the body,and so sperm can survive how? I'd say Edward should have only been able to fire blanks! OOOOh that was a miss!
The answer to this question is simple it is because bella is human so she would be able to produce a child but if bella was a vapire before she gt pregnant then she wouldn't b able 2 have children
