Twilight Series Question

Is Jacob immortal now?

It was said that the shifting gene returns everytime vampires are around, and it goes away when they're gone.
And the legend also says that the shape-shifters stop aging when they shift.

Now that Jacob has imprinted on Renesmee, he'll most likely be around vampires forever, even when the Cullens move away.
So, does that mean that Jacob will never get to start ageing again?

I think Stepenie Meyer kinda left that up in the air...but I guessing he wont age unless he distance himself from the Cullens and thats not going to happen since he imprinted on Nessie....

Actually Jacob will age just not as a human would but a wolf slowly, it's explained somewhere. That is why he can be with the Cullens.

I wasn't asking is imprinting makes him immortal.

But a vampire can't change Jacob. Vampire venom would kill him.

I interpretted the shifting gene comment as meaning that vampires have to be around in order for someone to become a werewolf, and shift for the first time. That's how it skipped a few generations in the tribe. I didn't think it meant that vampires need to be near all the time for them to shift. For example, in New Moon, the Cullens have left and only occasional vampires pass through, but the existing werewolves can still shift.

Regarding immortality, all the werewolves are technically immortal. They don't age while they still shift. Most decide to quit shifting eventually, to prevent them outliving their loved ones. However, Jacob is likely to keep shifting forever in order to stay with Renesmee.
