She left a note on one of the pages of the book for Bella that she didn't want Edward (or anyone else knowing about) because it would then be easily known to Aro and the only way to make sure nobody else knew was to destroy the evidence.

also underneath the note it has the address to J. Jenks so she could get the illigal papers for jacob and renesmee for both of them to escape. bella just wants renesmee to survive and alice knew this which is why she left the note.
After leaving a note with Sam from the copyright page of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, Alice and Jasper suddenly leave the Cullens. Since the couple does not provide a warning or reason, the Cullen family does not know why the couple has fled. Since it was her copy of the book, Bella perceives this as a sign from Alice. She returns to the cottage and she finds that Alice has written a name and address on another page of the book. When Bella goes to the address, she finds that it leads to the office of a lawyer named Jason Scott Jenks who can forge documents. Bella requests documents for Jacob and Renesmee, should they need to escape if a fight ensues with the Volturi.
Because she had left a message on the pages in the book ,advising Bella, her being the only exeption to anyone elses gifts, of what to do in a worse case scenario, and did not want anyone, especially Edward,being the mind reader that he is, to see the message or when aro touch Edward, he would know what Edward knew, be that what it may.
She doesn't mean destroy the book,she means destroy what she wrote on the page about meeting that guy J.Jenks and getting the passports and money and plane tickets.
