He thought she would move on and want a normal life without him. He shouldn't have left her because it made her go insane.

He wanted her to have a chance to a normal human life.He knew she was too in love with him to ever leave him so he broke her heart by making her believe he doesn't love her anymore.Fortunately he came back.
