Why is Bella immune to many of the vampire powers?

I've read all the books once, and I can't remember the reason. Is there some sort of mind sheild?

As a human she has a natural shield that protects her mind.....it is a gift and when she becomes a vampire...she brings it with her and it becomes a super shield that protects her as well as anyone she wants to protect.

Bella is immune to other Vampire powers because her power is like a shield.
She can protect herself against the powers of other vampires which can affect her mind. It's like a barrier in her mind, but it does nothing to save her from physical attacks- that's what Edward is for.
