Because people have nothing better to do than make a big deal out of nothing.
Edward and Jacob really aren't all that different from each other. In fact, they're exactly the same just presented differently. If you were to switch their characters, so Jacob being the main love interest and Edward being "the friend", you'd still read it the same way.

I did, otherwise I wouldn't be a hardcore fan on this spot. Obviously you just don't put more thought into what you're reading. When reading the books again for the millionth time, it's easy to see how much they're really alike.

Sorry couldn't help myself. I was Obsessed with Twilight, but moved on because I'm so sick of all the 'team' fighting& arguing. Twilight is getting old. I've switched to The Vampire Diaries ;)

NOBODY NONE CUD B EDWARD CULLIN... Edward is different , he is jst perfect... Im not saying Damon is bad... I also like him.. But u cudn compare them With each other...
Bcz Edward and Jacob is totally opposite of each other in characteristics.. The only common thing is they both love Bella.... So,bcz of ths opposite characteristics ,two opposite type of people Fall in Love wth them, and hate the opposite... And the Team Edward or Team Jacob debate arose.. Oh , Team Switzerland is the Exeption.they love all the guys types...

It doesn't, but everyone loves being on a team. It's a chance to let people know exactly what you think, plus, debates are awesome! If u don't want to be team jacob or team edward, why not be team twilight or something similar?
Probably because we get defensive when people insult the character we love, so there are team Edward, and team Jacob, and we defend the side we are on...
