Jacob DOESN'T "get in Bella's way". What the hell? What is he supposed to do? Edward leaves her and she goes running to him. They become best friends, and he falls in love with her in the process. She fell in love with him in the process. It's proven people, she says this in Eclipse, she feels it.
How is he getting in the way? Are you talking about how he is "in the way" of her being with Edward? He wasn't. Of course he was going to fight for he, he was in love with her. But it was always Bella's choice. If she wanted Jacob out of her life, she just could have told him. She didn't.
If you meant he was "getting in the way" of her becoming a vampire, what was he supposed to do. He's a werewolf, they kill vampires, she wanted to become a vampire. By Edward turning Bella, he broke the treaty. This meant the werewolves would fight the vampires, and Jacob would have to fight too. Obviously he wouldn't want the girl he loves to turn into his mortal enemy.
& Really, let's face it. If Jacob wasn't in the books, the story wouldn't be complete. Bella probably would have killed herself in NM, I'm almost positive of it. Even if she didn't this is how NM would go without Jacob: Edward breaks up with her. November. December. January. February. March. April, etc. Edward's back! Yay! *End of book*.
