Why do so many people hate or dislike Jacob? Is it something he has done or said or something else?

Honestly? There are lot of reasons.
I think it's because he was there for Bella when Edward wasn't and people wanted to have Edward back but instead we got Jake.
He tried to make Bella feel better about it all, to make her move on, and people didn't want Bella to move on.
Also, he bothered Edward, which is almost everyone's favorite character, he messed with him.
And when people thought it was all better because Edward was back, Bella still kept hanging out with Jacob, which pissed Edward off and therefore pissed the fans off too.
And the most important reason is because he finally managed to have Bella admiting her love to him, which was horrible to many Edward and Edward&Bella fans.
And in case that wasn't enough, he imprinted on Bella's daughter, which was totally not his fault because it's an instinct, a thing they are born with, but the people who already hated him, started hating him even more.

Basically, he was one of the only important characters that was a real other love interest for Bella and that didn't like Edward.

I think people hate or dislike Jacob because he was a distraction. He distracted people off of Edward. I think they are both equally cool. So people shouldn't hate him cause he fell in love.

I think most people dislike Jacob simply because he's not Edward. In fact, Edward can't stand him. I personaly love his character. He's quirky, humorous, and caring and sensitive when need be. More than that he has real human faults (jealous, impatient, stubborn)which makes his charactor all the more enjoyable. Although it makes it harder for him to contend with Edward it is part of his appeal (at least that is my oppinion).

Simply put: Bella is meant to be with Edward and althought Jacob is (in my mind) the more enjoyable charactor, the love triangle is as it should be; leaving poor Jacob out.

i dont have as much of a problem as i used to with jacob, i think most people just had a problem with him getting bella to fall in love with him instead of edward. i did at first, but i dont anymore.

some people really hate jacob and team jacobers understand that but edward fans frequently exagerate things and be really un fair.
one of the reasons i love jacob is because he isnt perfect.
so ya all edward fans stop the jacob hate.
we only know from bella that edward is perfect.
but if the books where from edwards point of view it wouldnt be the same.
also many people hate jacob because of the imprinting thing and they find jacob's imprint a sexual one.
ITS NOT he has a protective love and adoration,its not he wants to be with a child and watever u edward fans invent,he is like a ...brother to her and when she will be big ,she will have the choice to choose wether she wants him or not.
another reason u hate him is because he kissed bella in eclipse and made bella kiss him.
hehe well its edwards fault if he wouldnt have left bella she wouldnt have found jacob and depend on him.
its edwards fault and he needs to clean things up but now its too late.
and also jacob saved the newmoon book ,would u have wanted to read wat bella does every morning and very boring stuff??
or find out what werewolves do and many more interesting stuff.
he loved bella and bella couldnt forget jacob and felt that jacob should be happy.but its bellas fault for continuinng to act like that to jacob making him think he has chances and her never had the power to quit on him.

jacob made bella admit she loves him because thats his character he is exactly the opposite in edwards personality.its not in his character to quit even though he knows bella is with edward hee still didnt loose hope and tried.while if bella would had remained with jacob edward would quit though he would feel really bad and hopefully would had commited suicide.
o and the reason why stephenie made the imprinting things on werewolves i think was to clarify that jacob and bella couldnt be together because one day he would have imprinted on someone else and couldnt love bella anymore.
and jacob is the "bad boy" appearance of the twilight saga series.

*sigh* i know many of the edward fangirls will start contradicting with me now but just dont waste 5 minutes of your life doing it.

I haven't heard someone saying that they hate Jacob!!! but if someone is saying that they don't know what a lovable and caring this character is... he deserves to be happy because all through the series he is in pain over Bella and when he imprints on Reneesme I was shock but relived that he didn't suffer anymore.

I personaly don't like him in the film but in real life I like him. I think it's because all he wants is Bella to love him when she should be with Edward. He's also very force full and some times hurts Bella while Edward is all ways very carful not to hut her and to keep her safe

trust me i've been asking this question for years now and im so tired of their 'reasons' because he annoying, because he likes bella, because he gets nessie, because he gets in the way!!! but i cant understand their excuses!! but i have learned that, that is just their opinion... i just wished they would treat jacob with a little bit more of respect!! jacob as others character were made by stephenie meyer and each and every single character should get respect!! i hate when people say 'die jacob!' that is BS... i do beleive the story would of suck if jacob had not been part of the twilight saga.. but again that is just my opinion...

3 he is trying to steal edwards whole reason for existing

I dont dislike Jacob i just prefer Edward but in Eclipse at the end he was really idiotic... he was only thinking of himself and he didn't see that Edward and Bella were meant for eachother and he was a real bumhole wen he kissed Bella without her say-so yeh, he's gr8 annd all but wen i was readin Eclipse, I really didnt like him. but i think hes gr8 now!!!

Simple, people like Edward cuz they think he is perfect, hot, romantic, etc. They dont like Jacob bcuz they think Edward & Bella are ment to be togther 4ever, in New Moon Edward leaves Bella & she starts hangin out with Jacob, he loves her & Edward fans think thats wrong that Bella should stop bein friends with her best friend bcuz the Cullens & the wolf pack are like sworn enemys. Edward fans think Jacob should stay out of Bella's life they try to make her choose, Jacob or Edward. Edward fans dont like Jacob simply bcuz they think Bella would choose Jacob over Edward bcuz they have been friends scince they were babies, they think if Bella would have chosen Jacob it wouldnt be a good romantic story between mortal & immortal, they are afraid Edward would leave Bella again & this time never come back. They are afraid Edward would leave just bcuz they no Edward would give Bella whatever she wants. if she chose Jacob, Edward would think Bella wouldnt want him around to still be her friend. So really the simple part of this is:Edward fans are afraid that Edward will become like Jacob to Bella, she loves him but like a brother & they dont want that to happen.

well i quite like jacob but i h8 him from trying to steal bella away from edward and making a move on her, tried to stop bella from going to save edward from killing himself and he also imprinted on nessie and wouldnt trust bella to hold her own baby but he did make her happy when edward left.

I agree with you, he's so nice and hungry for food all the time. Maybe people hate him because he's the enemy of Edward. But, in every love story there SHOULD be love triangles like the whole Bella loves Edward but she also has feelings for Jacob and Edward and jacob are enemies or stuff like that. It makes the book sound interesting and it puts the drama in there!

Are you kidding me? Tell me you are kidding me.

People, myself included, hate Jacob for these reasons...

1) Because in number one and most of two (except when he was trying to replace Edward. As if) he was such a love able sweetie, and then he changed into an absolute jacka** in number three. People don't like it when people they like become jacka**'s. I would know.

2)Because we weren't looking for a replacement Edward, as if there could ever be one, but Stephanie Meyer fired him at us anyway.

3)Because ever since the end of the second one he was really angry all the time and no fun to be around any more. He darkened every page.

4)Because he lied to Bella.

5)Because he played the Suicide Card. The whole "I'll kill myself and it'll be your fault because..." I've had that done to me too. (But I learned from Bella's mistake - I didn't take any crap from the guy, I just said 'mate, don't you dare blame me for being screwed up')

6)Because he kissed Bella. When Edward kisses Bella we get to pretend we are her and enjoy it. When Jacob kisses Bella it's just WRONG.

7)Because Edward doesn't like him - and anybody Edward doesn't like, I don't like.

8)Because he tried to take Bella away from Edward, and I don't really care about Bella, but Edward does and there fore I guess I do too. And Edward gets what Edward wants.

9)Because generally, where Jacob is, Edward is not.

10)Because he is an obnoxious, irritating, immature Prat who is the best person to blame for the disappearance of Edward Cullen for almost an entire book!!!

I think it's because we've grown so attched to Edward. And that in Twilight, Jacob was basically just a side character that we didn't even see very much. But I like Jacob. Never even have disliked him. But That's what I think.

I dont think that people actually hate him its just because Twilight was all about Bella and Edward... like a perfect fairytale thing. Then In the second book he leaves and Jacob thinks he can just come in and have Bella but the fans are more used to Edward and prefer him because he was made out to be Mr. Perfect -which he is but still,- then like i said Jake comes and then in the 3rd book he acts like a jerk and people didnt like that.

to be honest~ when i was reading the books i hated jacob too. i think because he was always just THERE, waiting in the wings. after i finished the books, i realized that there couldn't have been a story with OUT jacob. as we all know vamps & wear wolves have a long history of hating each other, but this series goes beyond that.. vamps & wear wolves are now growing WITH each other instead of AGAINST each other. i know it would have been nice if the twilight series had focused on just bella & edwards lives.. but to have the wear wolves involved & their myths & legends & watching jacob grow up is all part of the story.. and how a town that you least expect is full of the supernatural!! hell, i grew to love jacob too even though im totally team edward. plus wouldn't it be cool if another story developed about renesme & jacob? every character in the book is important :D

I don't hate Jacob. I think of him as an enemy almost though. I'm so team Edward that the thought of Bella choosing Jacob is almost painful. On some days I'll read the book and truly hate them. But on other days when my mind is open I realize he's just fighting for what he wants. He suffers because of Bella and it makes me feel simpathy for him. I may say I hate him but truly once I look at it all the way through I see a kid fighting for what he wants. Thats something to admire. Though I'm still perfectly team Edward!

I was reading many of the answers because like you i wondered thses things too. No offense but, alot, not all but alot of Edward fans on this site seem to be extremely hostile. Geesh... its a book we all love, if we are reading them and on this site. I absolutely love Jacob but i like Edward. If it was me i would have chose Jacob but i understand, respect, and agree with Bella choosing Edward for her. So why cant the Edward fans except others choose Jacob and that Bella herself loved him. Its ok that you all love Edward, why cant it be alright that we love Jacob without being insulted or saying creepy, disrespectful things.

Hes rude, like, he talks crap about Bella's boyfriend infront of her. I think thats rude. He also kissed Bella knowing that Edward has already kissed her. But you do not see the Cullens all mean on him.

They hate him because some people cannot grasp the concept that Bella might not have chosen Edward. These people go insane and hate Jacob as a result of it, when really, they should hate Bella because she's the one that fell in love with Jacob. Or they could hate Edward for leaving and as a result leaving a door open for Jacob to make a move. But they will never do that because Edward is "A perfect boyfriend and has no flaws what so ever". Sorry for my little rant, I love Jacob.

I agree with you 100%! I, personally, am on Team Jacob, and I really don't see why people find Edward so attractive.

I didn't really care about him throughout New Moon. He was fine, incredibly dull, but fine. Until the end at least. His actions in the last chapter[?] of New Moon bleed into Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, showing his true character. He's flawed just like Bella and Edward, so I can't really say can't say I hate him any less than the other two, especially Bella, but he's bratty, whiny, manipulative and though he says he loves Bella, he doesn't seem to care about what she really wants whereas Edward told her if it's Jacob she wanted, he would let her leave him for Jacob. So, despite what people say about Edward, he gave Bella choices, she just chose poorly. And Jacob reacted poorly to her choices.
