TV Couples Question

"Au" Couples?

Ok, this might be a silly question, sorry. What are "AU" couples? I've seen that term in several picks and spots now and I can't figure out what it stands for...

'AU' stands for Alternate Universe. I think it basically means for two people from two different shows are paired together. I think that's right.

I would pair Rachel from Glee with Dawson of (duh) Dawson's Creek. Basically I wanted to challenge myself to find someone for Dawson as I can not really see him with anyone. So much angst and whining. But Rachel's got enough personality to wake him up and drag him out of his own head. Plus together they could be stars!

The only AU couple I'm into (they're from the same show but for them to be together it would have to be an alternate universe) is Cam and Hodgins from Bones.
